We will be spending one day at HS.
I'm hearing it is not a full day park. Is this true even after Toy Story Land opens?

If so, sounds like we may only require lunch and will be done by dinner time?

Recommendations on best QS location at HS?

It was not a full day for my family after the 1st time we went/ We then knew what we liked and didnt like and also with many attractions closing, it was definitely a 1/2 day.

On our last trip, I took advantage of this to sleep in a little later (rare on a Disney trip), have a later breakfast at the hotel, and spend some time at the pool. We headed over around 3, went on some rides/shows and had dinner at Hollywood and Vine (Fantasmic package) After dinner, we did some more attractions until Fantasmic started. It was a perfect day!

I will say, my family has zero interest in Star Wars, which would have added more time to our day...but we skipped all the Jedi things and parades/shows with Star Wars.

I really don't like any of the QS at HS (perhaps when Toy story land opens that will change) We usually eat at Sci-Fi....its a must do each trip

If I was doing lunch only without a fantasmic package, I would go to 50's Prime Time. Food is good (though a bit heavy if you plan on walking around for another 3 - 4 hours after). A lighter lunch, and unique theme is Sci-Fi. The only others Ive been to are Hollywood and Vine (Breakfast and seasonal dinner) and Brown Derby (dinner) I like 50's and Sci-Fi better.

I agree with this. We always eat at Sci Fi and don't care for the quick service there. We have eaten at 50's Prime Time too it's pretty good but always seems to take so long to be seated.

If you must have QS Backlot Express is not bad. We always eat at Hollywood Brown Derby lounge. It's first come, first serve, outside but the tables all have umbrellas.

Seconding the above - the Brown Derby Lounge is one of my favorites; good food, and a great place to people-watch. Not on the DDP though, so you'll be out of pocket.

I don't think there is any good quick service at the Disney Studios. I stick to the chicken strips when I have to have something. If I know I'm going to be at DS for half a day or more, I book a table service meal. Usually the 50's Prime Time or Mama Melrose.

You could try and fit your way into the Tune-In lounge if you don't want, or unable to, make an ADR at 50's Prime Time Café.

I have not found any TS, except Brown Derby, that my family likes and we have tried them all. We are not fond at all of SciFi (food or experience) though most people tend to like it. The interaction with the wait staff at Prime Time throws my son into a tizzy so it is not a comfortable place for us to eat though the food is good. The last time we were there, the waitress could see her antics were upsetting him "elbows off the table" etc. and I had to ask her to stop. I know that it sounds silly but it really bothered him!!

We really like to go to Sci Fi and order a bunch of appetizers. Delicious wings and onion rings. We have never been thrilled with the QS options at DHS

I guess we're just not very picky, because I think the QS at HS are all in line with most of the rest of QS in WDW. We enjoyed Backlot Express this past trip. The new bowls at Fairfax Fare were delicious (and the empanadas looked good as well). ABC Commissary has upgraded it's dinner menu and has gotten really good reviews lately and lunch doesn't look bad.

As to HS being only a half-day park, I think you need to make that determination yourself and quit reading/listening to others. The shows are all fantastic and it takes more than half a day to fit them all in. When Toy Story Land opens, that part of the park will be crowded and it will take some time to see it and to ride the new attractions. The Star Wars fireworks are excellent and F! is one of our favorites as well.

Lunch QS Backlot Express, TS Mama Melrose.
Dinner is usually Brown Derby.
If you do most everything in the park, I don't think you can do it in half a day. We usually spend a full day (even with so much closed), but we don't just focus on the big rides and then leave. We enjoy the shows and browse the shops.
