Hello,
I am trying to plan a one day visit to Walt Disney World for a family of 5 (Grandmother, mom, dad, son (4), daughter (2).
The daughter loves animals. So they are thinking of going to Animal Kingdom.
I suggested to the mother to download the 'My Disney Experience' app.
They will be staying off property.
(1) Do they buy park tickets first? (only 4 tickets)
(2) Make an ADR for Tusker House (character breakfast)? 30 days out around 8:00 am.
(3)
Lightning lane (if possible) for Kilimanjaro safaris (around 9 to 10am)
If I am on the right track please let me know.
Thank you
Kevin

Yes, they should download
MDE. It's a necessity.
(1) They check the park reservation calendar first to make sure that DAK is available on their chosen day. I don't think it's ever been sold out, but they should make sure.
(2) Buy tickets.
(3) Make park reservation immediately after purchasing tickets. They don't want to get sold out of their only park I realize this may never have happened, but who knows what will happen in the future?
I personally wouldn't waste precious early-morning park time with a breakfast buffet. I'd save that for later in the day, maybe a late lunch? But maybe the breakfast buffet is the best bang for one's buck these days. At any rate:
(4) ADRs are available 60 days in advance. Make that reservation on the 60-day mark at 7 a.m. or even try earlier since sometimes ADRs have been known to appear as early as 5:45 or 6:00 a.m. Tusker House is super popular. The 60-day ADR calendar is
here so your friends can pinpoint the exact day that's 60 days out.
(5) Purchase
Genie+ before 7 a.m. (anytime after midnight) on their park day.
(6) At 7 a.m. reserve the most-desired G+ ride. KS is usually available for early in the day, but if it will interfere with breakfast, they should shoot for a later time. The animal lover on this trip may want to do the safari more than once. I've certainly done it multiple times in a day. It's different every time.
(7) Other G+ rides can be reserved 2 hours after official park opening time OR after one has tapped in to the first G+ ride.
Try to get your friends to get familiar with the G+ system. It's not exactly intuitive. And let your friends know that even if rides seem sold out on G+ they can and will appear again. They just have to keep looking.
There's a 2-year-old so maybe FoP is out? Although the adults might want to do it. That's worth purchasing the ILL$ for, IMO. And Na'vi River Journey is great for everyone (it's a G+ selection, although sometimes that's not necessary, but if they're going to purchase G+ anyway, use it).
Hope this helps!
Edited for clarity.
