One Bedroom--what do we bring?

Since it's just the two of us, DH and I normally stay in a studio. For our upcoming Aulani trip, we will have a one-bedroom, and are looking to cooking for ourselves. (This will be our third time visiting, and have several friends who are from Oahu, so we are aware of the costs and challenges of grocery shopping.)

When we stay in a studio, I have a a few things that I always bring, like a cutting board, coffee mugs, a chef's knife.

I'm curious if there's things that would be suggested to bring (like a good knife) or if it's really all already there.

TIA

The kitchen in the one-bedroom is pretty well stocked, including several different types of knives (carving, paring, steak, butter knives). There is also a cutting board.

One thing I noticed they don't have is a pizza cutter. Considering many people throw a frozen pizza in the oven or order one in, I'm surprised they don't supply one!

I would bring some zip lock bags of various sizes, chip clips, and possibly a few plastic bowls with lids (GladWare or ziplock) for leftovers or to use as larger cereal bowls.

That would be a good idea, thank you.

Great ideas! thank you

Scissors - come in handing for opening things.

And when you get there, I'd recommend checking the supplies to be sure your 1 BR has what it's supposed to. One time we didn't, and when it was time to take what we'd baked out of the oven, THAT'S when we discovered that there were no pot holders/hot mitts. Great time to call the front desk, while our stuff burnt in the oven!

So forget about the sharpener, bring my own knife!

If you are actually going to cook things that require a good knife, yes.

I find the kitchens to be a little insufficient for real cooking - we do eggs in the morning, but that is about it. They are be electric ranges (which are horrible and end all desire for serious cooking in our family). So I'd bring a gas range...:)

I'd keep your recipe planning to things that are pretty simple - there are a few mixing bowls, and a few pots and pans. People do manage Thanksgiving dinner out of those kitchens, I wouldn't even try.

There used to be an inventory of what was in the rooms - I can't find one now, but it will be worth looking at so you don't plan on a broiler pan and only have a cake pan to work with.
