Hi-

Could someone tell me the difference between a 1 BR and 1 BR lockoff? Is there a preference at VWL?

Thanks!

A 1 bedroom lockoff has a locked door in the living room that connects it to the studio next door. If someone booked a 2 bedroom lockoff, the door would be opened and the studio would be the 2nd bedroom. A dedicated 1 bedroom does not have the lockoff door and can only be used as a 1 bedroom.

I prefer dedicated because noise from the studio tends to come in through that door in a lockoff, especially if you have someone sleeping in the living room.

I also think the one with the lockoff/studio has it's own temperature controls in the bedroom. The dedicated 2 bedroom does not.

As others have noted, the lock-off does have a double, lockable door to the adjacent studio unit while a straight one bedroom just has a wall there. Thus, a straight one bedroom "should" be quieter.

OTOH, if you are considering a dedicated two bedroom as compared to a two bedroom lock-off. In addition to the possible advantage of having the occupants in the studio portion being able to lock-off from the main part of the unit, there are a couple of more advantages to a lock-off. There are individual temperature controls in the studio and the main portion, which might be helpful if not everybody in the group agrees on what is the "corrrect" temperature in the unit. Also, the lock-off studio will have its own toaster, micro wave and coffee maker, whereas a straight two bedroom unit does not.

How about the bed arrangments? I understand dedicated 2BR units @ VWL have 2Q beds in the second BR whereas 2BR lockoff units does not? If you plan on having 6+ adults with 2 kids, would you prefer 2Q beds or 1Q+1 Pullout?
