I think the recap was an excellent idea. My mom was a bit confused at first with the first season. She watched the recap and got a better understanding of what happened.

I have 3 theories for the mystery man.

The first one being the one I think is more likely.

1.) Mystery man is either the March Hare or White Rabbit. There is the obvious "Hatter" sign, a bunch of clocks, monocles hanging on the wall by the door and if you look at his desk it has what looks to be keyholes as a design. I could be just crazy but it made sense to me!

2.) Mystery man is Rumple's son and Regina has known where he is and is the one who sent the postcard. It's in Regina's best interest that Rumple's son return in hopes of stopping him from doing magic and therefor making her the most powerful.

3.) This one is my mom's. She thinks mystery man could be captain hook. Now the mystery man has 2 hands so I'm not sure how possible it is. But it would explain all the clocks in his apartment!

I like the idea that he is Bae but that is such an obvious choice I can't see the writers doing this.

Up until now I've been okay with them rearranging the stories. But Mulan being in love with Philip is just not okay, he's Aurora's prince.

And we all know that Mulan loves Li Shang. ..not prince Philip...my daughters were in love with Li Shang and have been miffed for years that he is never in the parks...

My guess is that it is because the characters aren't "home" they continue in the form they were in here.

How did the Mad Hatter know who he was in Storybrook, MA? Gold and Regina did since they were associated with the curse.

If the NY man is the White Rabbit, then how did he know who he was too? What is so special about Wonderland that they do not forget who they were?

I assumed that the Hatter knew because he went insane from losing his daughter.

If you think about Pinocchio, individuals who came to our world BEFORE the curse know who they are. Perhaps the Hatter used his magic hat to send the Rabbit to our world (perhaps at Regina's bidding--remember she had to force him to use the hat one more time to save her father) before Regina cast the curse and sent everyone to Storybrooke.

Good point. Pinocchio and Emma came to our world at a different time than everyone else. Bae too (whiich is who I think the stranger is). We don't know how Jefferson got to our world. Last we saw him he was stuck in Wonderland. We know he gets out eventually because there he is in Storybrooke but we don't know how.

Maybe the key to awareness is either being involved in the creation or implication of the curse or travelling to our world at a different time than the others.
