Here's something that has been bothering me... gravy or butter?
Wouldn't you baste the kid with butter then make a nice gravy from the drippings when he's done? Why is this such a difficult question for the blind witch?
There have been a couple of times when people have tried to leave Storybrooke and "something bad" happened to them. First was Cinderella - she went into labor just past the "Welcome to Storybrooke" sign. A second time was when Emma was driving Hansel and Gretel. Emma's car broke down and H&G's dad helped them. In the end, it was good but, if kids can leave without something bad happening, why did Emma's car break down?
Emma can, in theory, come and go as she likes but, in the first episode, she saw the wolf and crashed her car just as she was leaving Storybrooke. If the queen doesn't know who Emma is, whose curse is keeping Emma in Storybrooke? Mr Gold's?![]()
LOL Pixie!
I had to read that twice to figure out what you were talking about!![]()
Don't know if this has been mentioned or noticed by anyone yet but my DH and have noticed that the cars being driven are all older cars (original bug by Emma and older MB by the mayor) and last week in the diner we noticed that the payphone was rotary dial and they even had a man in the background go over and check for change in it. We have noticed other things including the price of the playground that just don't go with present day values.
Does anyone else think that maybe the Storybrook story is taking place in the past (70's) and not the present? Do you think that would leave open a whole other story in the future?
Yes, I noticed that early on. I can't remember if I commented about it here or on the show site. I think it was the latter actually not that I think about it. But yes most things seem to be circa 1983 (when Emma would have been born in this world) or older. Until Snow showed up with an older cell phone in the last episode, the only people who seem to have access to anything modern are EQ, henry and Emma and the hospitals don't seem to have technology that looks particularly outdated. Although the nurses wear uniforms that you would not see today. The clothing the characters wear are classsics that don't date them to a specific period, the prices you see on signs are not what one would expect today. Espeically the gasoline that was either .15 or .23 cents. That was just crazy! It is very interesting.
I don't think the story is taking place in a different time, but rather the town was created at a specific point in time. Since everyone but Henry has been held in time, nothing had changed for them unless the EQ allows the change in. However now that Emma is there, time moves forward and things like Snow getting a cell phone happen. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
I need to re-watch the first episode..where it opens with Emma in the bar or whatever since she is "Bounty-Hunting"..and then her apartment. If I recall, they were more current, but will have to go back and see. If so, that supports your theory of being created at a specific point in time. Emma's leather coat is current, but her car in from the 70's..and that was from outside Storybrooke. The filing system for the Mayor and the Police station...not computerized...and you don't see kids or any references to video games or tv. Mary-Margaret's classroom looks pretty basic as well. On another note, anyone think Mr. Gold can hear everything that Emma/Henry say on the walkie-talkies? Like maybe he has a 3rd one...no reason why, but I just thought that from the day he gave them to Emma. This show just goes by way too fast for me but I do love it!
Interesting spoiler on the Belle/Rumple twist. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Once-Upon-Time-Emilie-de-Ravin-Lost-1042984.aspx
