onboard w/a 22 year old

When our daughter was 18 we went on the 7 day eastern Disney cruise, she had a friend with her (another DVC member family went with us) and she and her friend went to the teen room (Common Grounds) and asked if they could hang out there. Usually it's 13-17 yr. olds. But the two girls had a blast all week doing fun stuff. Their team won the week long competition.
This year they were 20 yr. olds. They enjoyed all the shopping and snorkling trips. They did go to Senor Frogs in Cozumel because drinking age was 18. The drinking age on the Disney Ship is 21. Which is fine by me.
They had fun together on the ship and hung out with their brother (22) and his friend (21) but didn't get to mingle much with others their ages. Because no activities.
I would classify this age group as Tweeners. They don't always like hanging with the adults (parents) at all the shows.
We're planning our next Disney Trip with a bunch of ladies here at work, and we'll take my daughter again, she'll be 21 then. But of course she likes to shop
:p

I did not mean to imply my nephew had a bad time, either. He had a really good time, he is willing to go with us again in January. I thought a lot of the problem he had was the month we cruised, October, not a lot of college age kids around in that month. But I do think Disney needs to cultivate this group. There is something for nearly every group except them. There was not a specific place for this age group to meet. His cup of tea would not be gambling and late night drinking and carousing on a Canival ship either.

We have been on 8 dcl cruises with our kids....the last two of them with them being 18 and 19 with cousins who were 21 and 22. That said they had a fabulous time and yes, there were not hoards of others that age but there were enough to keep them entertained. They loved going to adult clubs and participating in all the theme nights. They enjoyed the adult pool, Palos, spa, etc.

A lot has to do with them making their own fun!!

There is a meet & greet on the first or second night of the 7 day for the 18 - 25 year old group in Rockin Bar D. It is listed in the Navigator.

On our January cruise there were definately less in that age group than on our May or August cruises.

Sounds like your kids had some built in friends on board, which is great and very helpful.
Our kids did go to the rockin bar D meet and greet and no one was there.
Our kids do know how to have fun. They went to all the late night shows, participated in the bon voyage party and the mexicalfraglixous party, took the galley tour etc.

What my point was......There are not many opportunities for this age group to do things together. This age group loves computers, internet, games, etc. These might be some areas Disney could use to get them together.

Whatever.....I'm done with this topic.

Looking forward to another Disney Cruise and a stay at our home away from home at Disney's Vacation Club, Old Key West!

wdwfamdvc, Exactly, no one was there, not even a CM. DCL could use a facilitator for this age group, some kind of activity each day, if not a dedicated area.

My brother and I, 18 and 21, went to that meet and greet. We were two of only three people who showed up there, and everyone else in Rockin' Bar D was much older than us.

Well I just came back from the 7 day western and this was my very frist cruise on the DCL and I am 20 almost 21. The day activities are cool and all because theres a lot of things to do for adults like learning how to do towel animals, checking out the galley, bingo, spa, palo, all that other good stuff already mentioned besides exploring the ports. However, besides the normal adult activities there really isnt much set aside specifically for the 18-25 age group besides the one mixer on one evening. Granted there is the adult club, though I've gone there every night to check it out and to perfectly honest with you theres no one there or if there is... its like 10 ppl max and thats it.{Except when it was like 50s, 60s, 80s night when there were a lot more people there, obviously older adults attended these functions. No offense to anyone out there, I'm just telling it how it is.) I met some really cool people, I only wish that there was more though closer to my age. At around 2am the ship is mostly asleep while teenagers and people like myself are just wondering around the boat with friends. Can't really play bball, ping pong, etc up on decks 9 and 10 cuz its too slippery since the crew is cleaning the decks. Oh ya they drain the pools, including jacuzzi and put nets all over them, so no swimming. At this time, its usually ordering room service or hanging in the lounges talking because theres nothing else to do. Overall despite the slow night life from about 11pm on, I had fun anyways and I would go again. DCL can be a lot of fun if you want to have fun. You also have to keep in mind that it is a Disney cruise and not like a cruise where all they do is party all day and all night, like Carnival. Besides if you're looking for a place to party while on the Magic where they have lots of people dancing, with a bar and restaurant...Senior Frogs in Cozumel is the way to go.
