Onboard shopping

Im just wondering what the Disney merchandise is like onboard the Fantasy, particularly what may appeal to a princess-obsessed 4-year-old. Are there shops akin to a Disney store (princess and character dolls, toys, stationery, clothes) or are they more like the small boutiques that are in the wdw resort hotels, where we will find shirts and mugs with the dcl logos?

Also, my plan was to let dd empty her piggy bank, and buy a Disney gift card with that $, and that's what she can spend in the shops onboard. Would this work? Or am I better off just charging to the room? Would a Disney gift card work in the souvenir stalls at castaway cay?

I was last on fantasy before the refurbishment but there was a large selection of princess dresses and toys in one of the shops (i have boys so I can't tell u beyond that), a shop with more general Disney toys and souvenirs and one that had all the DCL logo gear as well as more upscale bags, watches, jewelry etc. you use your key to the world card to charge purchases to your on board account. You can grant charging privileges to your kids KTW card if u want but I have not been that brace yet!

You are allowed to use Disney Gift Cards in the shops onboard. Or you can just charge to your room and add the gift card to your account. Not sure if you can use the actual gift card at the shops on CC.

FYI: the shops are closed when the ship is in any port.

There are four main shops on the Fantasy.
Sea Treasures has more adult clothing, collectibles, ornaments, and a small duty free selection.
White Caps is now kate spade purses, perfume, effy, pandora, and dooney and burke.
Mickey's Mainsail has all the kids stuff and other Disney items. Some are cruise specific, some general disney, like stuffed animals, play sets, etc. They also bring out stuff for pirate night. In this area you will also find, pins, magnets, etc.
Tiffany &Co well, likely not age appropriate, but I don't know how big your daughters piggy bank is!

Side discussion but I have been vastly underwhelmed at the onboard shopping (at least for men) on all my DCL cruises. I wanted a new bathing suit and had one option to chose from. I wanted slippers (forgot mine at home) and not one pair available. Very few collared DCL shirts available in my size. No original"stylish" hats for someone my age. etc

Even my 7 year old...she had $100 to spend (gift from grandparents) and didn't spend anything. We went to Disney Spings when we got back and she spent half there and half in Pandora on a banshee.

If you're curious as to what they sell on the ships check out the Shop Disney Parks mobile app. You can buy all the cruise line merch on there. If you have an annual pass from Disneyland or Disneyworld you get the discount on the app too which is awesome. We found some shirts we wanted while on the cruise, and ordered them through the app when we got home and got our discount

I would equate it to a hotel gift shop. I felt the same way, ended up with only a pirate shirt, lol.

As mentioned above, we have also been very underwhelmed with the merchandise selection. All the kids merchandise is so much more expensive than at out local Disney store. If we're on a "new for us" ship I usually buy a Christmas ornament and a ship magnet.
