Hi there, my family are going on a disney cruise in December 16.we would like to book another cruise while onboard if the price is right....was wondering how far in advance they take booking....was thinking of a June 2018 cruise....thanks for any help

June 2018 will not be out until March 2017 or so. We are still waiting on June 2017. You can book a placeholder cruise for $250 and then move it to the cruise you want when the dates come out. You have to cruise within 24 months to keep the OBB discount.

Fabulous, thanks KristiMc.....sorry if I sound a it naive but what's a placeholder cruise?

It's just a deposit without a specific date that you book onboard so you can get the discount on a future cruise.

Can I ask, what is the discount of you book onboard? A percentage or a flat amount? Does your Castaway Club status make a difference at all? We're planning our second DCL trip for 2018 and was just curious.

Thanks!

Booking a future cruise onboard you get to put down a 10% deposit (instead of the regular 20%). And you get 10% off the cruise cost (only the cruise cost, not taxes, fees, gratuities, air travel, whatever else that you add). Plus Onboard Credit ($100 for cruises of less than 7 nights/$200 for cruises of 7 nights or longer).

There are black out dates.

Castaway Club level makes no difference.

So let's see if I have this right....we will be on a cruise at the end of March. I already booked a cruise for March of 2017. I do not know when my spring break will be in 2018. I can book a placeholder and then book when I get that vacation date set in stone, but it must be before 24 months--so if I book on March 31 2016, it has to sail before March 31 2018.
And if they decide to put spring break back in April, I can get my deposit back.

Great! Thank you!!

Does anyone know what the blackout dates are for April 2017?

This is from disneycruiselineblog.com

The specific block-out dates for 2017 are as follows: Disney Magic: 4/9, 4/16; Disney Wonder 4/9, 4/13 and 4/16; Disney Dream: 4/10, 4/14 and 4/17; Disney Fantasy: 4/8 and 4/15

Of course. Thanks!

I'll add to PP, it's a 100% refundable deposit, (as long as you don't book it as a concierge placeholder). It's a great way to be "in the system," so you can get the discount on your next cruise. Enjoy your first cruise!

Is there such a thing as a concierge placeholder? If there is, I don't see any reason to do this. Why wouldn't you just make a generic placeholder, which is fully refundable, and then if you want to book concierge on a specific cruise, transfer that placeholder to the new concierge reservation. Using the placeholder for a concierge room only gets you the $100 or $200 stateroom credit, right? No discount or reduced deposit?

No, a placeholder has no category assigned to it. It's $250 per room for a placeholder for a future cruise. At the time you select the cruise you choose the category.

Actually, the onboard booking letter says "Offer valid for categories 4-11 only. Offer not valid for Concierge level categories"

So we booked a placeholder when we were on the Fantasy last week. Am I
I correct that we would not get a 10% discount if we wanted to book the Magic on 4/9/17 or if we wanted to book concierge on an Alaskan cruise in the summer of 2017?

Why would you not get it for the 4/9 cruise?

But, you're correct Concierge is not eligible for the OBB perks.

Question. Mid level dummy here.
What is the reason for the blackout dates? I'm sure it makes sense but I am missing it.
TIA

The 4/9/17 cruise is a blackout date so you are correct that you would not get the 10% discount.
