on the magic there are 2 behind the scene tours that sound interesting. has anyone take either of these: Disney Behind the Scenes(that is the name!) or Disney's Navigator Series. both of these sound great! thanks for the info!:p

We did a couple of these on our May 2001 cruise. One was held in the Walt Disney Theatre. Some of the cast talked about how they came on board. They showed us lighting techniques, costumes, and the moving of the stage sets. Really cool! Afterwards we were able to go up on the stage to look around.

The second one we did was the Galley tour. This is fascinating. I can't get over how sparkling clean the galley is between meals - puts my kitchen to shame.

Both were great tours. My favorite tour of the ship was done by Tom Acomb on the DVC Member Cruise. He is one of the design team that outfitted the Wonder. He had some great stories about how things were done - lots of insider information.

I just came back from the 4/19 Eastern Magic. I took the Galley Tour. It was very short, about 15-20 minutes and you get a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie. It is described as a self guided but one of the Chefs from Palos walked with us through the kitchen. The tour took place on Thursday (one of the at sea days), about about 3:45pm between lunch and dinner so there was no one in the kitchen, but it was all stainless steel and very clean. It was interesting to see where our meals are prepared and I enjoyed it. You also get to ask the chef any questions you had about food preparation, storage, crew meals, etc.

It was surprising the number of questions people had about the crew quarters and their meals.

The Navigator series also includes a food demo on sea days in Studio Sea...they prepare an entree, dessert, appetizer on different days and they have a wine steward discuss what wine go with the food. Free samples of the food and the wine!!!

They also have napkin folding and a history on the Magic and DCL were created. They used to hand out a nice poster after each seasion but I do not know if they do that anymore.

We went to the food demo on our last cruise, and is one of the things we want to do again. The chef was Cory and the other person was Natalie. At least I'm pretty sure that was their names. They were both from Australia, and were a great comedy team as well as Cory did a great job of cooking. The food was good, and so was the wine they gave us.

Hope this year's lives up to the last one.

We also took the kitchen tour, and was amazed that only a couple hours before dinner, noone was in the kitchen. Why does it take me forever to make Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner? I'm usually only serving a dozen or so....

In March, they were not doing the galley tour because of the food thing, but the napkin folding, desserts ect. were worth it. I still do the napkin folding, when I can, I impress people so well. (haha) The behind the scenes was great too and I really enjoyed the navigator series. They showed a movie of the Magic being built. I enjoyed them and would do them again.

Natalie!! We were just watching our video not long ago from 2 yrs ago, and for the life of me, we could not remember her name. We've got her on tape a couple of times.. she hosted some of the family karaoke nights, and our daughter had her laughing so hard that she had tears rolling down her cheek, and had to sit down at our table with us to pull herself together :) Our then 9 year old brought a pink wig with her (we will never know why) and wore it everynight, and definitely got noticed by the staff. She got pulled up to dance on stage one night with the wig, and Morty chased after her every time he saw her. Anyway, thanks for solving that mystery! She's still got that wig, so it could reappear in a few weeks!!???! lol!

Does anyone know if there's an age restriction for attending the napkin folding? My son will be 10 when we cruise and he would appreciate this type of instruction. As far as behavior is concerned, the dear lad often times acts more maturely than Dad...

I think that is in the Art of Entertaining Series which is for adults 18 and over.

I did see some under 18's at the Napkin folding and plate decorating on March 8th so if your son would enjoy it I would bring him along. At the Napkin folding, there is also Mixology, and they bring samples, but that shouldn't be a problem.
