Hi

I am desperatly trying to loose weight and I picked up Jenny Craig last Oct. or so. I was doing fine for a while but I am finding that I don't want to eat the food any longer. It all tastes the same to me and I realy want to eat with my family. My DD6 wants to know why I can't eat her food and Mommy has to eat a different food than her. I am trying not to say diet or heavy or anything like that around her.

So I am wanting to drop JC and possibly pick up WW. I need advice though.

Does it work?

There are two plans, the points and the core. Which one is easier to follow with a family? It is very important to me to be with my family and eating with them at dinnertime.

Do the support groups really help?
Are their trained counselers or diaticians that I can talk to?

Thanks everyone. I really want to start adding to the amount of weight lost on the boards.

I think that WW is great. It really allows you to eat "regular" foods. Nothing is off limits.... you just have to watch your portions, etc. I haven't tried the CORE program myself, but I have a friend who was very successful on it.

The lecturers at the WW meetings (as well as all of the staff you will meet) are all WW "success stories". So they know from whence they speak! But they are not dieticians or nutritionists. I've never asked, so I don't know if they would have a registered dietician or anyone like that available to speak to. If you feel you need that, you could probably take your WW information with you to an appointment with a nutritionist or dietician and talk to them about helping you make good choices.

One thing I really like about WW is that, while it allows you to eat ANYTHING, it definitely rewards you for making the right choices. Sure... you can eat those chocolate mini cupcakes... they will "cost" you 3 points... or you can have THREE pieces of fruit for the same 3 points. If you are concerned about filling your belly, the fruit is a way better choice. But if you just need a little "junk" food... go for the cupcakes, count the points, and be guilt free!
Lower fat, higher fiber foods (which are healthier) are lower points, and high fat, no fiber foods are more points.... which encourages you to find healthier choices. For example, I had high fiber spaghetti tonight instead of regular spaghetti. The HF pasta had 6 grams of fiber, versus 0 grams of fiber in the regular pasta. I was able to eat more of the HF pasta for the same amount of points. It was a win-win... fuller belly and better for me!

In addition to the food and points, they spend time at WW talking to you about exercising, "Winning Outcomes", "Motivating Strategy", and "Positive Self-Talking". These are all things to help you be more successful in not just taking off the weight, but KEEPING IT OFF.... which I think most people will agree is the hardest part!

Find a local WW meeting place and "try out" a few different lecturers until you find the one who you really click with. Good luck...............P

I can't speak for the core plan either but, I have done the flex plan. Once you get the hang of it, it is very easy to follow. And also I think it is very family friendly. I never cook separately for myself and my son. (Unless there is a veggie I'm having that he doesn't like, LOL) Remember it is a lifestyle change not a diet. There are no forbidden foods. It teaches you that if you eat the appropriate portions of the right combinations you will lose weight and feel much better. All the staff I have ever met were VERY friendly, very open with their stories and really want you to be successful.
Good Luck in your decision.

I do the CORE program and I absolutely LOVE IT!! Especially cooking for a family, it just workd better for me. I have also done the points program, this is just a better fit for me. The is a CORE food list and you can eat the foods on that list (the idea is that you can eat until you are stisified...not stuffed) and you also get a additional 35 points a week for things that are not on the food list. Any questions, I would be glad to help.

This is my first time on the W.I.S.H. board. There is alot of info on here!!:surfweb:

I love how family friendly WW is. My dd is 4 and I'm trying to keep her from developing bad eating habits and going through what I have. I don't mention diet to her either - we talk about eating healthy and nutritious foods a lot though and getting stronger. She is aware enough to know what "fat" is and that mommy is "fat" though so I don't shy away from that with her and just tell her that being "fat" isn't healthy. I also discuss how hurtful it can be and that she should never ever tell someone they are fat. She is only 4 so she is at that brutally honest stage....but I'm trying. Of course we have also discussed the fact that God makes us all different and that being different isn't bad or just because someone isn't like you they aren't bad. It's a really hard line for me to walk with her between being honest and trying to keep her from getting messed up ideas about weight, etc.

Oh....and I do flex also. I haven't tried core so I can't talk about it....but flex works for me because I can have anything I want - I just need to have less of it and count it.
