ON vs OFF disney

Where to stay? I have visited the last three years. Each year stayed on Disney and loved it 06-PO riverside, 07- all star sports, Jan09- OKW. This last time we were able to get into OKW d/t my sister in laws timeshare. Wanting to go back to see the decor at x-mas, but needing to on a littler budget? Any ideas??? Also have hubby and 4 kids makes selection of rooms on disney limited.

Are you planning to actually be there for Christmas or to go earlier in December? If you're planning for the week of Christmas to New Year's, you may want to seriously consider trying for onsite. Sometimes the parks get so crowded that week that they close to offsite guests. We've been wanting to go during that time period - can't go earlier in Dec due to school. But we've held off because all onsite accommodations are so expensive that time of year - especially the ones that give us the space we'd really need to be comfy. For offsite accommodations, I can highly recommend Windsor Hills. The location is great, it has 24 hour gated security, nice pool and playground for the kids, and you can choose from condos, townhouses, and pool homes. There are lots of ways to book - check out www.windsorhillsrent.com or www.vacationcentralflorida.com. Those are just two options - I'm sure other folks will have lots of others plus other recommendations for places to stay. Hope this helps.

We got a good rate off-site that time of year last December, however, it is not the same Disney vacation off-site. If you want the same experience you had your last 3 vacations stay on-site. If you don't mind not having EMH (big mistake if you really want to do rides), seeing other things in Orlando off-site is good. We went to MK 1/1/09 and it was the most crowded I have ever seen it. But, we go several times a year so were content to just be in the MK watching the parade etc. Lines were unbelievable. I couldn't even find the end of the lines. Couldn't move through the crowds.

So if you want to do the parks and ride, stay on-site. Book a value early to save money.
