do you or don't purchase this? I am so torn wither way.I like the idea of saving the money yet what if something happens? So do or don't most people get it?I have had many trips and never purchased before but being that we are at sea???

The first thing I would do is check your health insurance policy. Will it cover you outside of the US? Will it pay for a medical evacuation at sea?

The reason I ask this is that a helicopter evacuation off a ship can cost as much as $25K depending on where the ship is, etc. Your travel insurance WILL cover this.

DCL travel insurance is expensive. You can do better with a private company. Also, DCL insurance will only cover a delayed flight causing you to miss the ship IF you booked air thru them.

I guess the way to look at it is that you can spend a relatively small amount on the insurance and not need it--thus, you've wasted a relatively small amount. Alternatively, you can not buy it and need it. You could lose the cost of the cruise (you might be able to afford this), or you could be out a whole lot more for an emergercy evacuation.

If you're asking, I'd assume that you really can't afford to lose the cost of the cruise. What if a family member gets sick, and you are confined to cabin on the ship (insurance will kick in)!

I've travelled with and without it....you just have to decide. BTY, kids are "free" on many private insurances.

Buy the insurance. If you're interested in saving dollars, book directly through Access America (www.accessamerica.com). I never brought insurance prior to last year's cruise and boy am I glad I did buy it for this cruise. My son got sick and was quarantined for 72 hours. Disney flew us home from St. Martin and we were reimbursed for the days we were in quarantine along with the days we missed. Because of the insurance, we were able to re-take the cruise at a later date.
As a previous poster said, if you don't book your airfare through Disney, your flights aren't insured, but if you book directly through Access America, they will be covered as well.

When I saw your question, I wrote a comment which I titled "medical evacuation". I think from now on, I'll get the travel insurance, even with good insurance. It'll be nice having the coverage for flights home and maybe credit for a future trip---which I didn't get without it.

Think of it in this context:

If you got sick one week before your cruise and were unable to travel, without travel insurance you might lose all or a large part of what you paid for your cruise. Taht's alot of money to lose compared to what you pay for travel insurance.
It's a no-brainer.

And if you think it won't happen to you because you are healthy, don't be so sure. It happened to me 3 weeks before a cruise, very unexpectedly. Thank God I had the insurance. I got a refund of over $5000.

May I ask was your son's sickness caused by the trip or a prior illness?Did Disney insist on the evacuation? I guess I only think evacuations are only if the ship is in danger...not like this.
Sorry, I am finding a no brainer issue hard!!
I talked to my insurance about it too.

I just purchased insurance with access america for myself, wife, two daughters for our Thanksgiving Magic cruise for $205. This includes children free, airfare, towncar, etc. Insured for $2500 per person value of trip. Did the best plan available. This is tons better than the outfit that Disney offered, as this one will cover my airfare, and other would not unless booked thru Disney. Also AA has higher limits of coverage. I thought that $205 was very reasonable for a $10,000 cruise. We are all in good health, but I am an insurance agent, and nobody plans to have an accident, get sick, etc. But it DOES happen.
I did find that some of the AA plans offered kids free, and some did not...
Good Sailing!

i was hesitant to buy insurance this time around in hopes of saving a few dollars but when i got to thinking about all the money i have invested in this trip i did some research and thats when i found insuremytrip.com. for 3 of us for our 17 day trip we are covered for $282 and that covers our 4 day wonder cruise and our 7 day magic cruise and the 5 disney park days, rental car, airfare, and all the standard stuff you get when you pay the $99 per person per cruise with disney, so i think purchasing it was a good idea and we saved lots of money doing it on our own and seemed to have received extra coverage in the process.

Our travel agent recommend Travelex. We've bought if for our last two trips, but thankfully, we've not had to use it. She told us that she has had clients who've filed claims, and everything was paid promptly. I just can't justify not buying it when it is around $50 for our 4 night cruise. So many things can happen. Check the rates on www.insuremytrip.com.

How much does DCL charge per person for a 7-day cruise for insurance? Also, if I get the comprehensive coverage from AA are the children automatically free?
