I have a question and didn't want to hijack Lynn's thread.

We were originally planning on having our Escape lunch reception (14 people total) at 'Ohana, but with all the menus changes and rumors of the potatoes going I'm not so sure anymore. :headache:

I'm browsing around the menus on allears but I'm not sure what good options would be for lunch, or what restaurants also serve lunch. I don't like seafood so I was trying to avoid things like that. I was looking at Yachtsman Steakhouse but I don't know what their hours are. Do they serve lunch there? Our ceremony is at 12:00 so I'm not sure realistically what time we would even be eating.

Any other suggestions? It would have to be outside the theme parks since I'm not requiring anyone to have tickets. I saw someone mention a private room available at the Boardwalk with a minimum of $1,000. Is that for Wishes weddings only? That might be over our budget but I'm trying to keep my options open so I don't freak last minute. :lmao:

We're planning on doing Whisperning Canyon Cafe for our Welcome Dinner and Kona Cafe for our farewell breakfast (when the family flies home). :lovestruc Thank you for reading!

Sorry neither Ohana or Yachtsman Steakhouse have lunch menus. Not too many options for lunch in general outside the parks. Look at the menus on allears.net at DTD.

i struggled when i was looking for my rehearsal lunch, we chose grand floridian cafe

'Ohana isn't open for lunch??

Okay, now I'm totally freaking out. :scared:

Okay, still freaking out! LOL! :lmao: What kind of menu did you get? I kinda don't want sandwiches like Lynn was saying. Looks like they have some steak on the regular menu for the cafe.

The following hotel restaurants are open for lunch:
Grand Floridian Café
Kona Café
Concourse Steakhouse (it closes on 5/11 though, but its replacement The Wave will most likely be open for lunch too)
Captain’s Grille
Beaches & Cream
Big River Grill
ESPN Club
Fresh (Dolphin)
Garden Grove Café (Swan)
Olivia’s Café (OKW)
Turf Club (SSR)
Whispering Canyon Café

The follow DTD restaurants are open for lunch:
Cap’n Jack’s
Fulton’s
Rainforest Café
Portobello Yacht Club
Raglan Road
Bongo’s
Wolfgang Puck Cafe

i have just booked it through wdw dine number so i'm guessing we will have the standard menu, i was not owrried about it being snadwiches so it didnt bother me

I don't know if it helps you at all, but we were originally going to have lunch after the wedding at Wolfgang Puck Cafe in DTD. I wound up switching to Grand Floridian Cafe because WPC was going to have us seated at two separate tables outside (there's 8 of us total, and I thought we would all be too hot sitting outside in July. :sunny: ) You might have better luck than me though at getting an indoor reservation. I was really looking forward to the food at WPC, but I decided it was more important to be comfortable and sit together.

Thanks so much for all the replies! I just e-mailed our wedding planner in a frenzy over the whole thing - I'll let you know what she recommends!

I mean, I noticed a lot of people have their events inside the park. Did anyone ever ask for their Escape guests to have a park ticket or how did you handle it? Ugh, this is just so frustrating. :headache:

I hope you didn't take what I said offensively. :flower3: The standard menu actually looks great - I guess when Lynn said sandwiches, I started thinking of those foofy sandwiches they serve at the Grand Tea. :rotfl: Personally, I'm just not into food like that but their standard menu actually looks like a good option for us. :thumbsup2

Okay, sorry to keep rambling! :lmao:

I was thinking - what if I switch my Whispering Canyon Cafe welcome dinner to being the luncheon reception instead? The server told me there's an area in the back that they usually put larger parties in. I know someone on Disboards had their reception there and they asked if they could kinda be left alone with the antics (I wish I could find the TR). I think that might be nice, too. What do you think?

What time does "dinner" start at Whispering Canyon Cafe? If our ceremony is at 12, would it be realistic to say we'd be ready to eat for 3:00? Or would pictures take longer or shorter than that? (Randy Chapman) Do you think they would allow us to have the dinner menu for lunch?

Okay, back to spazzing. :rotfl2:

Hey Jessi....GFC should let you eat off the regular menu, they are letting me,probably cause I freaked but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Whispering canyon cage would be fun,I know it get's loud in there though. Here is a link to pictures of some of the restaurants.

Thanks! I'll have to give them a call in a few months to see what's the story with that. I'm glad it did work out for you, though!

Did anyone have their lunch reception off-site?

We sat in the back of WCC for lunch one time for lunch on Easter Sunday a few years back. There were 10 of us. Yes, it was a little quieter back there but we were will my DF father (who is in his 80's) and DF aunt (who is also in her 80's) so this was perfect for us. The CM did joke around with us a bit and my DF's son - who was 16 at the time got the large glass of rootbeer so we did have a few things.

As far as the GF Cafe goes I know Amanda had her Rehersal Lunceon there. I contacted the GF Cafe directly about us doing our Rehersal Luncheon there also (we have a group of about 25) and they can do a limited personalized menu. You can pick out what you want and will create a menu for you and put your names and date on it. Let me know if you want the number and I will PM it to you.

oh i didnt at all, i just thought its really just a get together and I'm not worried what people eat, even if they dont eat. I only picked it really cos it was near the wp without going into the park

Oh, that's pretty cool if you can pick what you want! :goodvibes Can you PM me with the #? And maybe what you picked, too? :thumbsup2

We had our post-wedding luncheon at Portabello's (which Shelli mentioned on Lynn's thread, actually). It was great. I had originally looked into Fulton's, but like you said, it had mostly seafood, and while we like it, we didn't want our guests to feel restricted and just fill up on bread and water. :)

Our wedding was at noon, at the Yacht Club Gazebo. We made it to Portabello's by...mmmm, it's getting fuzzy! 2:30, I think? I'd have to check my pj to be sure. There were 16 of us total, and I don't think the check (including alcohol, which was only drunk by DH's family, ha ha) was over $350, so pretty reasonable. We were there on a Monday afternoon, so it was EMPTY. The food was good, the staff was very nice, and I didn't have to mess with creating a personalized menu (though that was an option); they just brought out regular lunch and dinner menus and let everyone order what they wanted.

Let me know if you have any questions! GL with whatever you decide!
