On the subject of leftovers...

To all you veteran DVCers: throughout your memberships, have you found any way to make sure your points don't go to waste? I mean the extra 5 or 7 that were banked from last year, etc. Do you search resorts whose points add up to exactly the amount you have or do you just get used to the fact that over 50 years, the numbers are not always going to work out. I'm trying not to worry about it but I'm a virgo so I do.

The five or seven that were banked from last year are the first ones to go when I make my reservation for this year. It's important to keep track of that so that you don't lose points.

Hey Cat - I'm not being very clear. What I mean is that points needed for stays can only add up to a certain number of combinations. You can't always use every point without leftovers and I was just trying to figure out the best way to use them all. Maybe people change room sizes to use up their points, save a set number to bank that will make next year round off - just wondering.

DVCtiff: I see what you are saying but I would wager that not as many owners use the exact amount of points that they own, as those that have to bank or borrow in any given year.

I usually end up with a few left over and the need to bank them or go over by a few and need to borrow some. I have done both and have never come out even in any given year. Might be an interesting poll though. I wonder how many people do come out even every year? I just read on another thread that a SSR owner came out even on the first day of reservations. Maybe they just planned their purchase really well based on what they knew they would use for the type of unit they want.

I understand your question, but you really don't have to worry as long as you use more each year than you banked from the previous year. When I am saving for a big trip, I make sure I am using at least as many as I bank for a given year. For example, after our scheduled 2003 trips, we had 140 points left. Next year, I have to be sure I use at least 140 before I bank.
