On the road on US Thanksgiving

Hey there!

After driving all the way down to WDW for the first time in April for a last minute trip, we're now considering driving again for our November trip

Now, here's the thing : we'll add a few days to our reservation, but because of availability, we might add days after our reservation, which means that we would leave Orlando on Nov. 22nd.

If we follow that plan, we'll be on the road just before and on Thanksgiving. Anyone knows if it will be hard to get hotels down the road and at what price?

Never travelled US during Thanksgiving, but you should be able to get an idea now just by looking at what hotels are going for on that date on Hotels.com or similar (just don't support the dancing guy on Trivago - oh how I hate those commercials!) If it is going to be a hard weekend to get, prices will already be elevated, and availability will already be low.

Be aware that you might not find a lot of restaurants open on US Thanksgiving. When we drove to WDW back in 2001 (I know it is a long time ago) we could not find restaurants to eat at off the interstate. We ended up eating chips and chocolate bars bought from the gas stations during the day and we ended up at an I-Hop for dinner as it was the only thing open.

So one thing to keep in mind is that is the US thanksgiving is a much bigger deal than in Canada. It is also one of the busiest, if not THE busiest travel holiday down there. You may not want to chance not having a hotel booked for the drive. As the other poster mentioned your may be dow to fast food and gas station eats as everything tends to close down.
