? on the renting points?

Hi everyone - I posted yesterday about trying to throw together a trip for the first week of Feb while hubby is gone.

I've read through the FAQ's for rent/trade and I must still be tired!

I may need to rent 40 points to complete my reservation... Do I make the reservation first and then try to get points or how does this work? I don't want to buy the 40 points first if there is no availablility - do they hold a reservation or could someone with more experience give me a hand on how to go about this?

Again, these boards are the best so if anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

If you are a DVC member, you can try to find someone to transfer points to your account and you can make the reservation yourself.

If you are not a DVC member you will have to find a member to make a reservation for you using their points. Points are of no value to anyone but the member who owns them and cannot be used by a non-member in any way.

Post your dates, room type and resort on the Rent/Trade Board and/or respond to an offer of points available from a member and negotiate the terms you'll be comfortable with for your reservation.

oops, sorry, I am a DVC Member..... So you find points, they transfer them to your account, and then you just work out payment arrangements??

Does MS "hold" a reservation if there is availability?

Not sure if you are aware or maybe this is why you are short points - for stays until Feb 4 and booked by Dec 29 there are General Public codes, FLL resident codes and AP codes for reduced rates

Not sure if this helps but you may want to consider paying cash for one or two nights to ensure you have enough points or if possible not sure if you can/want to borrow points from your next use year

MS will not hold a reservation- they will only make a reservation using points or a cash reservation (sometimes with the 25% DVC discount) from the member inventory- when available.

If you find someone with transferrable points they can easily transfer them to your account thru MS.
