News outlets are reporting that Chapek fired Rice because he was “an ill fit with Disney’s corporate culture.”

I wonder what that means (if it's true). I wonder if it means he was a poor fit for the Disney culture that was established well before Chapek arrived, the one so many of us admire, or if it means he was resisting Chapek.

No knowing, I suppose.

Could be lots of things. Could have been an insensitive political remark.

So when Bob Iger decided he was not ready to retire he forced Tom Skaggs out. Is it suprising that the one person who was rumored to replace Chapek, Rice, was fired. This is the way they play it in the high stake Corporate mgmt games.

Article I read said that he might not be getting along with other Disney personnel. He'd tended to circumnavigate the system when he didn't get what he wanted which made others a little peeved. Also said that they reigned in his power because of this so maybe he pushed back too much? Also mentioned that they could be flat out insecure with a non long time Disney exec and that Chapeck might have felt threatened too.

I read the same article (or one that was based on the same source). When Rice "circumnavigated the system" to get what he wanted, he went directly to Chapek. It was Chapek's job to direct Rice back to the proper channels so that feathers didn't get ruffled. But he didn't. He allowed Rice to go over and around people that he should have gone through. So who is really to blame? Rice, for working the angles to get his way? Or Chapek for not exercising his authority and reining Rice in?

Not thinking "employee development" is in the CEO job description - probably why the head of HR was reported to be present during the dismissal ...

The head of HR was there?
There have been many articles .. and many different takes on "what" happened. It is funny how the story keeps iterating as the days pass. For me, Ms. Walden's quick note to her new organization thanking both Rice and supporting Chapek - tells me there is more to the story than anyone really knows tbh.

That's the funny part, Chapek seemed to agree with his ideas. Article said he was promoting Fox employees over Disney ones as well. So maybe that had something to do with it?
Happened with me at Oops. They bought another company and didn't know what to do with one of their managers so they put her in charge of my district even though the job wasn't related to her profession. My group had to train their employees and she was literally having me do parts of her job. Any promotions that came up went to her people though.
Only difference is when I complained, HR was escorting me out and most of my original group was laid off.

You just gave a new nickname of "rice" to somebody I work with so thanks for that.
