I think it depends on your age and eating habits. We have just returned from our trip a few days ago, we're late 50's and we do not have any chiodren, all grown. From past experiences we know the meals at WDW are huge, we do not eat alot while on vacation, bloats ya and slows you down, so we never used the dining plan. We also don't like to be tied down to dining times, pre-scheduled, screws up our day knowing we have to be here at such an such time. We enjoy counter service more than sit downs, have a couple of sit downs but we share alot of meals. Thats about the only way we can eat 2 basic meals, portions are too huge. We look around us while eating and see so much food left by other guests its nuts, you paid for it, eat it or don't get everyone a meal, heck we could survive on what they left, hence why we're againt the dining plan, just too much food too many times a day.

Don't get me wrong, others swear by it, saves them tons of money but to me either you're huge eaters, love 3 complete meals a day or have growing children who can eat. We vivit other resorts, each has their own unique menus, even the moderates and we hit our favorites, last trip was our 39th and our dining just about stays the same. We stayed at the WL, just the 2 of us and we didn't go hungry, hardly spent 200.00 for 10 days on food, and we did some sit downs, we grocery shop before arriving and have pool picnics mainly for lunches and this give us the opportunity to have an ice cream or two and pop corn through out the day. We're not cheap but its just our honest way of doing dining while at WDW.

our information says you get 3 meals and 2 snacks u can use as and when you wish not only at set times

IMHO: I think the deluxe sounds great. WTG and have a great time planning your trip! :)

I agree - it's way too much food. I guess some people are really into the restaurants but my family and I are not big foodies and don't like to plan out each day according to our meals.

We tried to eat three TS meals in one day and we could barely roll ourselves around to actually enjoy the parks! That being said if you really wanted to try out some Signature resturants that require 2 credits, then this would be a perfect plan without feeling like you are cutting out TS dinner one night just to enjoy another. We are using this plan for Nov of next year and I've planned on eating at just about all of the signature resturants and still able to go to all the character meals the kids love. Hope this helps!

It does seem like alot of food but we are planning two trips, one in 8/08 in which we plan on using the usual DDP, and one in 2009 as a magical gathering. We have never used any of the dining plans before and we like the character and signature meals so we are trying the 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack with just my 18 DS and I to see how that works out. In 2009 we will be having 2 little girls (grandaughter and grandniece) and perhaps a little boy or two (DIL and niece expecting) plus I have a 6 yo nephew that may be going. We are planning on lots of character meals, probably the bar-b-que, HDDR, oh, just the works. The little girls love princesses!

DH and I went in Jan '07 on the premium plan and had 3 TS meals everyday. It was tons of food and I was always stuffed. There was no way I could even think about eating any snacks. I enjoyed having the ADRs and built in down time in our schedule as DH needed those breaks. We were able to try a ton of things and found a few that went on the favorites list. We had never had WDW TS before so this was a new experience for us but fitting for our second 'hunny'moon.

That said, we are going in May '08 for middle child's b-day and are getting the DxDDP. We have 2 teen girls and one pre-teen boy that can out eat both DH and I almost everyday. We aren't big foodies either but I like knowing we have those breaks, where everyone regroups, sits down and relaxes and gets refreshed for the next part of our day. We also eat during off times so it's generally a bit quieter and we can take our time.

charliemim,

Go and enjoy yourselves, you are getting a great deal. Yes, there is a LOT of food (we've just gotten the regular dining plan with 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack/day). But, we normally are very careful to budget when at home. We go out to eat, but we usually skip appetizers or share one. Or, we tend to get the less expensive that we like (not the cheapest, not the most expensive). And, we never get desserts. Now, for vacation, we'll have whatever we want for an appetizer (have to say we tried some interesting things we had never had before this last trip), enjoy what we want for the meal (although, now that my teenager likes Prime Rib, I see the regular cost of meals going up at home :goodvibes ), and we tried some fabulous desserts. Another thing we did, since our youngest was only getting the same tired kids meals all the time, we always split our appetizers and desserts with her (and often I quite enjoyed her grapes and let her have my entire dessert) and very often, she ate from one of our meals.

If you like to try new places or new foods, relax and enjoy yourselves. It's your vacation and if that's what you want, go for it! We will next year, too (it's already booked)!

ITA, we love the down times and always leave the parks in the afternoon to hit the pool and then shower/change for dinner (often at a resort which requires more time to get to). With a teenager and a preschooler, our days were often split between the parks with one parent/one child going one way and the others to another park or side of a park. The family time at meals that we had together was wonderful.

Also, eating at off-times is a great option!
