We live 2hrs outside Disney World and my Wife and I, our two small boys 2 & 6 spend plenty of time on Disney grounds. We normally go to Disney about every six weeks and spend 2 or 3 night at a resort. Generally we get the Florida resident discount rate for our hotel stay. Recently we started looking into dvc and I think it will work great for our family. I plan on purchasing dvc thru resale however, I’m still a little concerned about being able to book our stays thru dvc. Since we only live 2hrs outside Orlando we rarely plan 6 months in advance, more like 2 or 3 months in advance. We are more flexibly with our days than most since we live so close. I’m worried that after purchasing dvc I find out that do to my short booking window I can never find a place to sleep...

Sounds to me that you would be flexible as to where you want to stay. If you are mainly staying weekends, they seem to be the easiest to get since the weekends have higher point values. But since this is the case, I am not sure that it would be worth it for you because of getting the discounted rate on the hotel rooms. Although, DVC is more than a hotel room, so I can see where you are torn. You can see if a DVC member might check availability for you from time to time and do a test over the next year or so to see if you can get the times you want.

Or another suggestion is check the availability boards. They are brand new, so they don't have much info yet, but it would give you an idea of what is available.

Just a couple of thoughts.
