2 separate families are traveling on this cruise. A party of 4 and a party of 5. The party of 5 has to book 2 separate rooms because they have an infant that is 3 months old. But in reality they will not use this extra room. Does anyone know or have any ideas on how to avoid this extra cost of $ 800.00 for a room we will not use? Thank you

First off......welcome to the DIS boards

If I'm not mistaken, the only cabins that would sleep 5 are, at least, some of the cat 4s and cat 1,2 and 3. Otherwise they will need to book the second cabin. I think they will also have to pay the 2 adults rate for that cabin. If they do have to get the second one, get connecting cabins and spread out..... 2 bathrooms and a lot more room. If they're going to pay for it, they may as well use it :D

What cat rooms does the family of 5 have booked?
Did they book 2 people in one room and 2 in another plus the infant?

We had a simliar problem with our large group sailing on the 3/20/04.

They are booked in a Cat 9, we have not paid yet. We are paying for it in full tomorrow.

total $ 1,972.05 party of 3 - 1 adult $ 907.35 1 child $ 892.35 (4 years old) and 1 infant (under 3) $ 172.35
total $ 1,814.70 party of 3 - 1 adult $ 907.35 1 child $ 907.35 (6 years old)

I have sent you a private message with my contact information. Thank you, any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately, they don't have many options. This is pretty much standard in the industry. There must be a berth for each passenger in the room, and the first two passengers are always billed as adults.

The only options really are to book a category 4, which accommodates 5, but is more expensive, or to book two adjoining rooms in a lower category. I'd price it both ways and see which works best. Even though the infant will likely sleep in a crib, they would not put a family of 5 in a room which has only 4 berths.
