Hi everyone -

I wanted to know if anyone knows if this discount applies to substitute teachers as well. I'm hoping to be one (a sub, that is) in the fall and wondered if these discounts would apply to me?

Thanks!

As long as you have a teaching certificate you are eligable. You can take a copy of you cert. or a pay stub. We have stayed 3 times now at the Swan on my teacher discount, it is very nice and a great deal! Enjoy!:)

My husband is a full-time history professor at a local community college (state supported). Would he be eligible for either the teacher or government employee discount? Anyone else in this position??

And Webmaster John said:
If he can produce any of the documentation required as stated on this page Discount Requirements he is eligle.

I'm in the same boat; I teach at a college, and would have no problem documenting that I teach at a college. But, does the Swan and Dolphin define a college as a "school" or do they only include teachers at K-12 schools in their discount? Does anyone know? Anyone know whom to ask at the Swan or Dolphin?

Hi Judy, Here is info to help you.

Teacher and Education Support Staff Discount - All teachers and educational facility administrative personnel (includes colleges and universities) can take advantage of the TEACHER discounts. If you are a teacher with a certified teaching certificate, or you are employed in a school as an educational facility administrator you can take advantage of the TEACHER discounts. This would include teachers aides, substitute teachers, and administrative staff. These job types will require a Work ID or letter from supervisor on company letterhead stating employment or a recent Pay Stub.

In answer to your question yes you qualify.

So, I have a teaching certificate, therefore I'm eligible for a teacher rate? Knew I got that degree and certificate for a reason.....LOL

(technically I don't work currently....but I am homeschooling my kids...and I am a certified teacher)

Yes, Lesley you can get the discount. I am not employed at the moment either and I just took a copy of my certificare with me. No problem at all. I think this is such a nice thing that the Swan does for teachers and nurses, I just feel really special!

Yes for the teachers aides!!!!! I am one, and honestly we don't get paid much at all. I just I can bring my contract and my ID, and I am set. In my district all subs are certified as well... so once I get the required credits for certifications

Hi everyone & thanks for the info! :)

Now, here's a follow up question... in my state (NJ) I'm PRETTY sure that you wouldn't get a 'teacher's certificate' when subbing. You only need 60 credits, and you work per diem - not always at the same school.... (I'm hopefully going this week to be a sub.) So A) I have no certificate, B) I probably wouldn't have any employee ID from any one school. So.....even though I'll be a true sub I don't think I'll qualify? (Well, maybe I get some kind of ID from the board of ed showing I'm a sub - STILL, no teacher's certificate....) Hmmmm.......

Thanks for the info, Bob!

Depending on where you live in NJ. The district athat I work for gives a certificate, and certification processes for anyone with 60 credits. My district calls you a certificed sub, if you have the 60 credits, and has the clear police check, and I think CPR certifciation (infant child). i HVE the clear police check and CPR certification (thanks to another job I had!). Basically I have to finish up my 60 (not much longer), and get a special form/fill it out and then I am a certified sub. Our district gives all the subs this certificicate.

Cindy B - Wow, I didn't know that. Well, I guess I'll have some more info this week. As I said, I hope to go tomorrow and start the process. So maybe I WILL be able to enjoy the discount!! :)

Be prepared to pay out of pocket for the fingerprinting. (It was $75 here in Camden County) CPR classes was about $40, but I got that for free due to my other job. With the substitute teaching certificate, that discount should be attainable. I've got 5 classes to go for my sixty, then I will be doing the same thing. .. not sure if will take the S/D discount or not...

Maybe diff counties have diff requirements? I have a couple friends that have done this (one right in my county - Hudson) & they never mentioned the CPR, and finger-printing here (so I'm told) is $50.....

Good luck with the rest of the credits (I'm WELL over 60 credits....I'll be graduating next year!)

Maybe different counties do have different rules. As I said before I am an educational assistant, and they are now uisng all the ed assistants for subbing as well. (Hey, we're here, why not use us?)...

I think they like to see the CPR because I am a special ed educational assistant. I do work with kids with special needs, and sometimes with one in a wheelchair. I've never used it, but I think its a nice thing they like to see, if that makes sense.

The fingerprinting in Burlington and Camden Counties is opted out with a thrid party company called Sagem Morpho. They do a laser scan insteasd of the old ink fingerprints.. Those two counites I know of use this service, it may be more.. my one professor said it was going statewide, but maybe it hasnt' made it up north yet.

Thanks for the good wishes in school.. just decided to go back after 13 years!

Hey Cindy

I just called the Board of Ed - and OOPS, no applications available now (they ran out!) so I'll have to wait til next week. Again, she mentioned the finger printing, but nothing about the CPR....plus I know someone told me we do a physical thru their docs (fun).

And don't feel bad about the school! I've been going for 8/9 years now! (LOL) So that's why I'm so excited about FINALLY graduating next year!!!! :Pinkbounc

Take care, Alex

OH....and she did say I have to pay $50 to get my sub certificate - so I guess that'll be good for the discount! YAY!!!

I booked the 129 gov rate directly thru the dolphin, after taxes and resort fees it comes out to 153/night. If I book thru somewhere else that offers the rate like dreams unlimited or something is the rate closer to the 129, ie does the resort fee get dropped, etc? Or is it essentially 153/night? Just making sure I actually booked it correctly. Thanks.
