On-Site ECV Questions

I have traveled with family on multiple occasions to Disney using both on-site regular wheelchairs that I pushed and for one trip an off-site ECV that was delivered to our Disney Resort. However I do not think that renting off-site is a possibility for us this time. We are leaving this Thursday for a 4 night/5 day stay, and will be traveling with a larger group than we normally do, of friends who are meeting us there.

My DH tore the meniscus in his knee last week and had surgery to repair it today. He is restricted to crutches for 4 weeks. The doctor cleared him to go to Disney and wants him in an ECV. He does not want me to push him because I am almost 32 weeks pregnant (just starting my 8th month). I have already been to Disney multiple times this pregnancy since we are AP holders and am not really worried about myself. The complication is obviously that I cannot physically support him in a lot of ways, as he is a large guy at 6'5" and 240 lbs. We cannot rent an ECV off-site because neither of us would be able to lift the unit in/out of the car and we are not staying at a Disney Resort (so no easy buses to get to the parks).

So with that background info, here are some of my questions:

1. What time do we need to be to the park by to have the best chances of having an ECV available? This weekend should be about a 6 or 7 based on the easyWDW crowd calendars. We are planning on arriving by 8 or 9am but this is in my opinion optimistic with a large group of people departing together. I can however push us out the door sooner and have them catch up with us at the park if absolutely necessary.

2. We would like to bring the crutches to the park if possible. This would allow him some "freedom" from the chair in certain places, and a chance to stretch out for brief periods of time. It would also give us the option for me to take the chair if I'm feeling overwhelmed. If we bring a "crutch holder" type attachment, do these attach easily to the Disney ECVs? If he wants to take the crutches to go up to a ride that I can't go on, where does he put the crutches when he gets on (are these treated like a wheelchair basically?)

3. The group will total 8 people, and I've never travelled with that many + an ECV. Are there any restrictions about party size as far as being able to enter a line together (ie the separate entrance at Splash or the "come back at this time" method at Jungle Cruise?).

Thanks so much for any advice!

In the summer, the ECV's can be all gone not long after park opening. Like gone by 10.
Since you are offsite, I would avoid parks with am EMH's in the morning, it will be harder to get an ECV there.
I think it would be great to bring a crutch holder, as the park ECV's wouldn't have anything like that.
As for #3, I don't know, as we havealwaysbeen a group of 3-4 and they have taken us all...
FYI (please no flames), but he might consider a short
term disability parking tag while he is on the crutches.
Good luck and have fun!!
