We just got off the Wonder and watched someone that tested positive for covid get escorted down the hall. Where do they bring people that test positive during the cruise? My husband was leaving our stateroom one afternoon and a man in a hazmat suit escorting a passenger told him to stay in the room. They close off the floor with medal doors that block the elevators until the person is escorted out. Then a day or two later we saw the guy with the hazmat suit entering her room.

They have a quarantine section on one of the decks near the medical bay I believe. The CDC requires them to do that but I don't know that disney has declared what deck they use.

Some reports have indicated deck 2 is for quarantine. Whether that is true for all ships I can't say but I wouldn't be surprised.

When I sailed on the Magic in October, decks 1 and 2 were not utilized as regular staterooms by passengers, so I assume that one or both of those decks were used for quarantine purposes.

Yikes! What happens to a child if the parent(s) test positive? That is a really scary thought!!

Deck 2 and the aft section of deck 5 are closed off on the Fantasy right now. There is clearly some kind of health issue with the crew (Vibe and Edge cannot be staffed), so maybe they had to add additional cabins to spread folks out.

The family would quarantine together. Just like if the child tests positive. A month or so ago someone shared their experience quarantining with a child identified as a close-contact. I believe the family was given the option to split up with the child + one parent going to quarantine, but as a small party of 3 they opted to stay together.

Close contact is not the same as a positive though. It's really pretty loose around where I am in terms of the rest of the household (otherwise no one would ever get out of the house!). But, yes, I guess DCL would have no choice about quarantining child and parent if only one was positive. It's a whole domino effect...when you get off the ship, obviously shouldn't fly, etc. Tough time to travel.

I would assume that the rest of the travel party would be considered close contact and asked to quarantine with the positive case (or maybe quarantine in a separate cabin than the positive case if negative)?!? Unless someone lived through this situation and reports it here, we can only assume what will happen. Would be nice if DCL made their protocols public but that won’t happen as they like secrecy.

This exactly. I would like to know in advance so I can decide if it's worth it to me to take the cruise. It's a lot of money to spend on a concierge cabin and then get quarantined to deck 2 for an exposure on the ship.

Semi-related question: is everyone who booked decks 1/2 being moved? Any idea to what type of stateroom? (Can you tell I have deck 2 booked on Wonder? 😜)
Yes, I saw posts a little while back that someone in connecting deck 2 oceanviews got moved to the deck 6 forward oceanviews that are not connecting and it was a big problem for them. I do think deck 2 is a weird choice for them to block off given that so many people book them for connecting rooms as there are not a ton of connecting rooms that are not verandahs on the classic ships.

I won’t name anyone, but I know a crew member on Fantasy did say there was covid going on around the crew, not surprised. Just saying I did talk with person.

We were moved from midship deck 2 (our favorite location) to forward on deck 6 last month on the Wonder. I was not very pleased about it. I consider moving from mid to forward a downgrade. I have no idea why deck 6 is "more desirable" than deck 2 and thus considered an upgrade? DCL pretty much shrugged their shoulders when my TA and I both called in separate calls to them. I tried to pay for an upgrade to a midship verandah at boarding but was told none were available. We decided to give it a try, but we were unimpressed. It was quiet, but definitely not my ideal location. Until this is all over with, we're going to avoid booking deck 2 I guess.

DCL is quarantining not only the positive test but the close contacts. I believe anyone in the stateroom is considered close-contacts if 1 of them tested positive onboard, and quite possibly those in a separate stateroom that is a linked reservation.

Close contact is not the same as a positive though.
Yes, the family I mentioned above had a child identified as a "close contact" of another child in the Club/Lab. It was the other child who was positive, but it's a sort of domino effect with the close contacts. The child in the family I mentioned tested negative but due to the close-contact status had to quarantine, therefore at least one parent had to accompany the child in quarantine. If there had been other children in the family who were not close contacts, the family probably could have split with one parent/adult remaining in the regular stateroom with the child(ren) not required to quarantine.

Would be nice if DCL made their protocols public but that won’t happen as they like secrecy.
I wouldn't say it's "secrecy" because once any passenger experiences the onboard situation the information is out, as I outlined above. Most companies don't list out full procedures even ones that could impact customers. The DCL website does indicate they have "developed protocols for screening for and responding to symptoms of COVID-19." I would think any passenger wanting to base their decision to cruise on those protocols could ask for more detail. It's quite possible a regular phone CM doesn't have that detail, though, and the question would need to be pushed further up the chain of command.

Let's face it...cruising right now is risky in the sense as you don't know what can happen once you are onboard (or at the port). We really can't expect the experience to be like it was before Covid. You either accept that risk going in or wait to cruise when things are less unsettled. That said we felt very safe on our September Dream cruise and recently booked the Magic for January out of Miami. I know going in that we could be denied boarding or quarantined onboard at some point or the cruise could be changed or cancelled before we sail. It is a bit scary not knowing what could happen. Pack your patience for sure.

Even if you get partial refunds for the days you are quarantined, it would not be fun being quarantined. Wouldn't be worth it.
