I'll be going to Disneyland/DCA in a few days, and I was wondering if you could take pictures (with flash) on some of the rides. Particularly, is it ok to take pictures on...

- Haunted Mansion
- POTC
- IASW
- TSMM
- Soarin'
- Space Mt.
- Star Tours
- Any other dark ride

I'd assume it's ok to take regular pics on "open" rides like Thunder Mountain and the Matterhorn... is it ok? Are there some rides that strictly prohibit taking pictures? Just want to make sure before I bring a camera onto the rides. I'd need to take flash pictures for the dark rides, of course. Thanks in advance! :wizard:

For the safety and comfort of our Guests and Cast Members, we don't allow Flash Photography on any Disneyland Resort Attraction, especially the Dark Rides.

Yes to IASW, TSMM, Fantasyland Dark Rides, Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Monster's Inc. are the ones coming to mind right now.

No to the rest......you can videotape with no external lighting. And absolutely no photos or video on Soarin'.

In all of the indoor rides, including IASW and all the Fantasyland dark rides, I took photos without my flash and with the vision screen turned off so I didn't distract (or worse, blind) any other riders. Most of the "dark" rides are lit up in neon and with the right camera setting you can get good photos without the flash. You just have to be quick, LOL, because those rides are always a movin'! :upsidedow

I really understand the reasons behind the flash photos...but I must be honest here....I do take pictures on the rides. I take pictures of the people that I bring with me...for instance...the children I take to DL from my daycare...their parents want to see the excitement...so I don't necessarily take pics or videos of the ride itself...but I do take pictures of the childrens expressions while on the rides.

For me...that's the moment and that's why I'm there.

Have you ever been shot in the eye with a flash on a dark ride????? The previous poster is correct (also is a CM)...NO flash photos on the dark rides!!!

Pirates recently and this guy was flashing his camera as soon as we left the dock. I said firmly "No flash photography, no flasho" Was speaking a language that I could not place and that is rare for me. I could not even guest something general like Slavic, Latin, or Arabian.

years ago I was on the train as we entered into the diorama. Nothing like 3 flash cameras going off at once and the bounce back of me hitting the seat back as my I was blinded.

Also dark rides often use infrared and other technology to alert CMs if someone is moving around in the ride. Lights can show up pretty bright on their monitors. Also it bothers some people to have the viewscreens open while they are on a ride. Nice glare from the view screens in the dark.

The worst every flash camera event was in Hannibal, Missouri. We were on a lantern tour of one of the local caves and the tour guide had us turn off the lanterns. She started to talk about how this is what early explorers would have encountered when they came into the caves. FLASH Yep someone decided to take a flash photo of the pitch black cavern, lol.:lmao:

A few things at WDW and DLR are no image taking for various reasons. I do not know which ones though.

Chances are if you take flash pictures in a dark ride you will have people yelling "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!"

Like I did on HM.
:lmao:

I did that to someone on Pirates. Actually, to our general boat because about 6 people were doing it. One gal turned around and gave me serious attitude. Oh, the joy.

Where's Giselle's post? :thumbsup2She had it written in almost every language known to man. :lmao:
OP: No flash photography for the comfort and safety of guests and CMs. You can still take photos; just turn off the flash. If you are using a P&S, it probably won't come out on dark rides anyway, so just sit back and enjoy the ride. :)

HAHAHAHA!! :lmao:Did you ask for a copy of that once in a lifetime photo?!?

The problem is most likely your flash does not reach far enough to light up whatever it is. Your pictures won't turn out anyway. Turn the flash off and look for a night or dark setting on your camera and give it a try. I'm not an expert photographer by any means but I was able to get a few decent photos on POTC without flash. Experiment with your camera before you go so you know what to try when you get there.

Ugh yes, I agree with what a lot of other people said. PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR FLASH ON ANY RIDE. Not only are you not allowed, but it takes away from the experience for other guests. On our last trip to WDW we didn't even see Pirates of the Carribean because throughout the entire ride people were holding up their video cameras and then each corner we would tun they all lifted up their arms to take a picture (some with flashes, some not), but we couldn't see a thing and we were very disappointed. Just enjoy the ride, you won't see and enjoy all of Disney's details if you are busy trying to get a photo...and no one goes to Disneyland to ride the attractions only to see peoples arms up in the air!

I always asked prior to riding if we could use the flash....Pooh, IASW, Monster's, etc I had listed in my earlier post. I would NEVER use it if they told me no & I asked everytime. I hate it when the flash is going on the ones they've said no or announce over & over. So if we weren't supposed to on those rides....the CM's need to know that & tell us no.

I'm a good girl & do what I'm told!!! :worship: :rotfl:

Thanks everyone! I got it, NO FLASH. The thing is, if I use the "night" setting on my camera, it automatically uses flash, so I'll need to figure out how to force it to stay in normal mode without flash before we leave. Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Yes, your camera will have a way to turn the flash off. Play around with it, test the different modes, see how they come out, and look at the booklet it that came with it. If you don't have it, you might be able to find it online at the company's website.
