Just a quick poll... would you stay for 6 nights on Disney property at the Poly, or 9 nights off property at a condo or villa rental?

We only go to Disney every other year.

Having stayed on property for every trip, I am spoiled and don't think that I could stay off property, if I was only doing Disney. We are a family that does 100% Disney for the entire stay, and we'd do whatever it took to stay on property.

I would do poly in a heartbeat. I love the feeling of being 100% involved with Disney. I stayed in a condo offsite once and hated every thing about it. The condo was nice but it just was not the same as being inmersed in the Disney Magic. I hope this helps.

On-property is ofcourse the ultimate....

But we always stay off-property because we are down there for 3 weeks.....
And we love it.

I would go for the extra nights and that means off-property....

I voted quality over quantity, but it really depends on what you're looking for. Given that you only get there once every other year, possibly quantity is more advantageous?? I'm sure whatever villa or vacation home you chose would also be very nice!

The Poly for sure. We've done WDW 40 times since 1975 and stayed off property just once--our very first trip. We didn't know any better back then.

Ditto here! We have stayed off property 3 times and I dreaded it (but it involved a company trip w/paid room so what could we do?!!). I'd say if you can afford Poly then go for it! :goodvibes

I'll go with option C. Go for 9 nights at a cheaper Disney resort. If you still want deluxe, try the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, or Animal Kingdom Lodge. Or you could go to moderate and really save.

That's just me though. I've never heard anyone come home and complain, "Man! We were on vacation TOO long!"

I'd stay at the Poly for sure. There is just something about staying on property that makes it all so much more magical!

Thank you everyone for your input. We were at dinner last night and my mom suggested we stay off property to save $$$, and I thought I would weigh the pros and cons before telling her what I thought.

There's just something magical about hearing "welcome aboard the WDW monorail; our highway in the sky."

I could stay 20 minutes away from WDW at my MILs for FREE (well strings attached of course) and still choose to stay on property when we visit! :)

We stayed with her the first few times we came down, but once dd was older I explained that we wanted to "immerse her in the experience."

Not sure how much she and stepFIL buy it, but it works for us! :thumbsup2

(I should add that during our 8 night stay last year, I scheduled ADRs for FOUR of our nights at resorts instead of in parks so they could join us w/o having to pay for entry into the parks....I do try to be a good DIL!)

Definitely on property Simon. The magic is worth the extra money. :goodvibes

On property.

I want to be totally immersed in the Disney experience....even if I have to cut my trip short by 3+ days.
Most of us here at the DIS are hard core fans. It explains the overwhelming vote for on-property stays.

I picked Poly but it's my favorite resort other than WL. If we couldn't to Poly or DVC then I'd choose offsite. Since we gave up on the buses and drive to the parks it doesn't really matter as much anymore.

But EMH might be worth onsite if that's one of the things you really like to do!

Tell your mom that a couple of other perks to staying on-site, besides EMH, is the delivery of store purchases to your resort at no charge and free parking at the parks/resorts. Also, you won't be able to watch Wishes from your off-site resort!!

Anytime that you can afford to spend over 5 nights on property in a Deluxe, well that wins over 10 nights in any location offsite. I fell so in love with the Poly last year.

We are staying at the Contemporary because it's more budget friendly for us. We are going with my MIL. She is on a fixed income and has lots of health issues. We surprised her with the upgrade and are paying for most of her trip expenses. She is hard headed and won't let us pay for everything. She's getting 9 nights at the CR, a MVMCP, an ECV scooter rental, all of her meals, and her park ticket for only $1450. Can you say deal? :thumbsup2

In the future, I am dying to try the AKL and I would love to revisit the Poly.

I am a non-traditional Disney traveler and usually stay off-property. I've found some very affordable and nice hotels within minutes from WDW.

I didn't vote, because both on and off have their advantages.

I love having a pool to myself, and a full kitchen, and quiet.

I love being in the midst of the magic, and not having to drive anywhere.

I hardly ever take advantage of EMH, so that's not an issue.

Since there are advantages to both, I guess I'd go with a longer stay.

On Property. I want to be in the Magic 24/7. Besides, Capt. Cooks has Dole Whips.

I have to say on property as well. Poly is favorite non DVC resort on property.
Have not stayed there since 99. Been in only DVC resorts since 03
Have you considered a less expensive on property resort and stay longer. Maybe even check the DVC rental board.
