Can an AP reservation for a studio be linked to a points reservation so changing rooms can be avoided?

No, you won't be able to link reservations made thru different sources, but you can make a request that you stay in the same villa. In addition to having it noted on both reservations, I'd also mention is again at check-in. In most cases, the resort will accommodate the request providing the rooms are in the same category (view, dedicated/lock-off, etc.).

That I wouldn't mind doing if I could keep the same room! It would also benefit housekeeping having one less room to clean.

I did that once. I stayed at OKW for 5 nights on points and then Friday night on an AP rate. On Friday morning, I had to go to the front desk to get new keys, new parking pass. Got full housekeeping that day. But no DVC benefits (no free internet). Kept the same room.

You need to have the rooms booked exactly the same. Same name first, same name second, etc. You need to put the reservation of each on the other. When you check in, see if you are blocked into the same room for your entire stay. If not, if you aren't picky with your requests, they might be able to block you into the room for the entire stay. And if it all works out, you check out of the DVC stay and check into your AP stay.

But you won't get the DVC perks with your cash stay - no free internet, no pool hopping, etc. Your new KTTW won't have DVC member on it.

We did this once at SSR and we didn't have the rooms reserved exactly the same. But the CM at the desk was able to block us into the room for our entire trip. Bless her. We had to check out and check in, but not have to move.

Thanks everyone for the insightful info. Right now I have the first two days at BCV on cash discount, the next three are on points. MS has said that they are linked. I was thinking I could save a little with an AP discount if there was one. But I'm also thinking if it aint broke leave it alone. Would I still get the free internet with the cash room?

Are the 2 days you currently have on AP rate or the member discount? The member discount reservation is treated as a member stay and can be linked to the points reservation. Reservations through CRO cannot be linked and are treated as a non-member stay.

Yes, you will get free internet. Since you reserved the two stays thru MS, they are linked and will serve as one seamless reservation. You will not need to check-in for the cash reservation either and internet will apply for the entire stay.

On my last trip we had 1 night on cash through CRO, 5 nights on points and the last night on cash. On check-in I asked to stay in the same room and it could not be done. At that point I changed the last night to points so I would not have to move again.
