They try to accommodate your requests bast they can, but no guarantee. Best bet is if you check in and you are dissatisfied with your room location kindly ask if anything else is available and they will try to help you bet they can. If it helps I can say of the 10 times I used online check in in the past , I think all but one time my requests were granted.

I just did mine too and I'm very excited. To be honest, I've never had my requests met but my rooms have always been better than I expected. A prime example is AKL and our request for a specific savanna. We ended up in a part of the building that was not recommended on these boards, in the Unofficial Guide, anywhere. I almost asked to change while at the desk but decided to roll with it. I ended up with a room overlooking a watering hole and animals there all the time! I'm so glad they didn't take my request. This time around I asked for a balcony or patio but made no other requests. Hopefully they'll do good by me.

I did online check in for our stay at the Wilderness Lodge in December. Our room was dirty, post it notes on the mirror, crumbs on the carpet, beds messy. We ended up having to back to the desk to get another room assigned. We were upgraded to a bunk bed room, so I guess it worked out in our favor.

We are almost at our 60 days. Is there a benefit of doing online check in at 60?

no real benefit except for having one more thing done on the checklist. I have put it off and then missed the deadline.

Nope. One not so great time they even downgraded me from a preferred room at ASMu to a standard room. From that point on, if I want or have booked a certain room type, I haven't used on-line check in.

If you are at all fussy about room location or type, and will ask that they move you if they don't get it, it kind of defeats the purpose. They then have to void out the room keys they have ready and waiting, and have to start from scratch. Making the check in process even longer than it would have been had you just waited until your arrival to check in.

If I don't give 2 figs about where my room is, I will use on-line check in. If it matters, I won't.

I have an inkling that at some point online check-in will be tied to FastPass+ for package holders. As of now there's nothing to support that, other than there being no other logical explanation for the 60 day time frame.

As per the OPs question, there are a lot of things that have an effect on their ability to fulfill your requests. Online check-in doesn't seem to be one of them. From what I've been told, they can still pull a room from someone who has done online check-in to give it to someone else, as long as the room has not been physically checked into.

Thanks!! We are staying at AKV-Kidani Lodge (thanks to a friend renting me points dirt cheap). I honestly don't care where the room is. We are easy to please.

I had made a room request for my stay at POR this past January, and also did online check-in. I had requested a room in one of the mansions (we had paid for garden view), and when I checked in we were in Alligator Bayou. I'm not always very assertive, but I REALLY wanted to stay in the mansions. I politely told them that I had made a room request and asked if there was any possibility that another room was available. They were able to assign me a new room even though I'd already done the online check-in.

I did online check in for our stay at POR starting on Sunday. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that "this time" things actually go right. My last 2 stays I didn't even get the room I paid for, so hopefully this time it'll be good. I paid for Preferred this time and at the time I made the reservations requested a special AB building. I know that isn't always possible to get it. When I did the online check in I requested a first floor room due to back issues so hopefully will get that. My two bad experiences were at POP & AKL & both necessitated a trip back to the check in to switch rooms. I just want a magical stay this time.........LOL!!pixiedust:

Sometimes it is impossible. If 20 people request the same thing and they only have 2 open rooms that day in that location, what can they do?

They have spiked out some of the more popular requests and made them a separate category and charge more (preferred buildings, specific savanna, etc). Even then people don't always get it because rooms go out of service.
