If you do online check and skip going to the front desk is there a greater chance that your room request will be looked over ?

Unknown, the purpose of online check in and direct to room is to allow guests to fast track the room process and to get you to start spending money earlier. It also reduces the number of CM's at the front desk for an additional cost savings for Disney.

The front desk can't take rooms from guests that have been given their room number but they still might be able to take the rooms that have not been released.

Thanks for the reply. When staying at the DVC resorts we have always been lucky and got most of or request. But the new skip front desk is new to us.

I don't think it affects your chances at all. Last month, I did online check-in and got my requests filled at BLT! I also had a late arrival around 11pm (which I indicated at check-in), and my room requests were filled.

My experience with it has not been good. I know the room assigner looks at your requests because my requests were put in over the phone. Unfortunately a typo had my request in a different section of the resort...this would have been caught if I had gone to the front desk. Plus you still need to go to the front desk for your welcome packet and parking pass.

I sent my request via email to Member services. If I do online check in it will override the email ?

It is the proverbial crap shoot. You can request a room all you want....but if there are already people that checked in days before in the rooms you requested, you won't get them. For every "happy" person, there is an "unhappy" one. I do my on-line check-in, but follow up with an e-mail to member services. But....I do not re-do my on-line check in, because I think it might mess up what member services may or may not have done. Regardless, I always stop at the front desk when we arrive at the resort. I never find the lines long and/or unbearable. They know your room number when you check in, but won't tell you what it is unless it is ready. I will ask certain questions about floor number or ask if it is certain rooms that I DON'T want. I have even talked to "room assigners" for certain resorts before our arrival. Because I will never, ever stay in a ground floor room.

I've had my fair share of stinky rooms....and my fair share of wonderful rooms. There are some very nice standard view rooms at the BoardWalk....but some not very nice ones, but one really can't complain because it IS standard view. There are also some not very nice BoardWalk View rooms...and I had bad luck, even with e-mailing MS and talking to a room assigner. Although I did get a higher floor like I wanted....was just not aware that this room was much smaller than others.

The best way is to study the room number charts for the different resorts....just do a search on these boards, some DIS board members have done a great job with these charts. And people post pictures and views along with their room numbers.

We did online check-in, and it worked great!! Booked Jambo house standard view studio, but then added savannah view as a request (knowing that there were some standard studios that have a savannah view), and we got it! We got to Orlando at 10am, went straight to the parks, and got a text around noon with our room number. I was very impressed!
