I just got on line check in e mail from my travel agent. Should I do it or not? What are the advantages in doing it or not doing it? We arrive on Saturday, how soon before we arrive do I need to do it?

I really liked the on line check in. When we got to our hotel we had a shorter line and out check in package was ready and waiting for us. I would do it again.

We did it last year at POP, our line was short and check in was fast.

My wife and I stayed in both Port Orleans FQ and the Contemporary last summer, and we did online check in for both of them. It is well worth the saved time, provided you know enough about how Disney works ahead of time. If you have questions about how the Key to the World cards work, Disney transportation, resort food options, etc., then don't do online check in because you will only have a short amount of time to talk to a CM. If you are a Disney veteran, however, then it is worth it.

Are your preferences noted..as to a particular building or room location? Is there someone to speak to when you do check in if you have questions?

I don't see why not. You'll expedite your arrival and have your welcome packet complete with your Key to the World cards in likely less than a minute after arriving at your Disney resort. You provide all your registration information ahead of time - saving you time. At Value and Moderate resorts, separate queues are also set up for online check-in, which move faster and are typically much shorter. You can do it anytime up to ten days prior to arrival. There is no advantage to waiting - so if you're within that window, go ahead and do it.

Yes, you'll still finish the process with a Front Desk host or hostess, who verify your ID and will give you your packet. You may ask many questions as you want (contrary to belief here, online check-in is designed to reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the technical check-in process, not to eliminate interaction or questions you may have for a Cast Member). As far as your requests, you still need to call these in ahead of time - there is no freeform requests field available during online check-in, only a few, very undetailed options to choose from, if any (close to transportation, refrigerator request, etc). Also, online check-in will neither help nor hinder your likelihood for your requests to be granted, or the 1 in 100 chance of an upgrade.

Will my DD16 and DD12 have charging priviledges if we do online check-in?

Yes, anyone ten and above is automatically given charging ability by the system. You can request them to re-cut the keys without charging ability at anytime, however.
