I e-mailed Disney about the on-line check-in that is now available to find out where to sign in but I haven't heard back. Has anyone done this yet?
TIA

According to what I have read. The starting date for this will be February the 11th.

I wish the DVC web site was more reliable. Thia is what is posted on the site.

No where in that quote does it say or suggest that it will be available before February 2009 if you read the quote carefully.

Silly me! I thought "scheduled to begin January 2009" meant January not February! :rolleyes1

:confused3 But the quote begins with "Scheduled to begin January 2009,....", I also assumed that it would start sometime in January.

Now, now, remember we are dealing with Disney's IT people. January really means "or whenever we get it semi-working" in Disney IT speak.

To be fair to the IT people. It could be that an over eager marketer published the information before it was reasonable for scheduling purposes. Sometimes the business gives incomplete requirements for product development. As the product is tested the business "remembers" issues that should have been included. This creates scope creep and a delay in the product release. It is better to have the product as fully tested as possible before release to the public.

Its also possible that they had priority changes or resource changes. Particularly with the sudden change to the economy that happened in September/October this year - our IT group had three weeks of running around, not making progress, while everything got reprioritized.

It's Disney Time you know like Year of a Million dreams lasting 2 and 1/4 years. Disney has it's own World Time and February is the New January

I just wish they would update and make corrections when things are incorrect.

Folks the DISNEY IT shop is producing this train wreck. Those are the folks that have been working on the "known" problem where lots of us can't see our vacation details for a MONTH. Those are the folks who have been "fixing" the dining reservation system for about 6 months. Those are the folks who produce and maintain the SINGLE most screwed up hotel reservation system in cyberspace.
Expect VERY little and you MIGHT not be disappointed. They rarely make a published deadline and the product is generally uniformly disappointing once released! (Folks on the Theme Park board are roundly trashing the "new" Disney.com)

All this quote says is that the "Walt Disney World Resort" will introduce the service in January 2009. It does not say that all resorts will be included, and in fact it says "select" resorts that that were in operation as of December 2008. It then says that WHEN it is available there will be a link on the website.

Is it even Disney IT - I think they've outsourced a lot of their IT now.....

The buck stops at managements door! You can outsource the work but not the responsiblity Disney is PAYING for it so it's THIER responsiblity regardless of "who" the actual programmers are!

I know Disney IT hasn't been stellar, but I've never personally had any problems. The travel plans are always accessible on the web site, the wait lists have always come through. When I call to double check on reservations and wait lists they are always intact. I get requests 95% of the time.

Sure there are not cutting edge in many respects. They screwed up the 6 month dining reservations. We can't make rroom reservations on line, can't book on line, can't check availability on line (which would probably save MS lots of time), etc.

I still plan on getting more points some day.

I realize that some of you are just venting, which I also need to do at times and I'm sure I will do in the future if a reservation goes wrong, but Disney isn't "the worst."
