So DW and I are planning a trip to Columbia, SC this April to start the whole retirement area search even though we are still 7-9 years away from retiring and moving. We've always wanted to check out HHI and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. With On Line Booking [OLB], I was able to see the availability of a studio for 2 nights which worked out perfect for our travel plans.
However, I couldn't complete the OLB process since I was 5 points short and OLB does not provide the option to purchase the points.
So I called MS this morning while I had OLB open on my PC. MS states those nights are not available?? I explained to MS that OLB is showing them available. She comes back a few minutes later and says those nights 'just' dropped into the system. We were able to quickly and efficiently borrow my remaining 2012 points, purchase the 5 points and close out the reservation.
If I hadn't been able to search via OLB, I'm sure:
1) I wouldn't have even bothered to call MS for this trip, and
2) I would have taken the MS word that there was no availability.
Thumbs up for OLB feature. It has allowed us to optimize our DVC ownership.
I did learn something about OLB though. If you select just a specific night(s), OLB may not show those nights as available. I had to select a date a few days before my desired nights, and let the normal 7 day default work it's magic. The week is shown with what is available, with easy to follow options for booking and/or wait listing the available nights.
