On Fox News: National Guard combing Vero Beach for land mines.

Not to worry, considering Disney Vero Beach, isn't really in Vero Beach. Isn't it actually in Sabastian, the next town up? But Disney Sabastian Inlet, didn't sound as good as Disney Vero Beach??? Or is this just another rumor I fell for!!!

Disney Vero Beach is actually in Wabasso.. My mom has had a house in Vero for 24 years. Vero beach has many other beaches. South Beach , J.C. Conn, Hummiston and other ones. The possible land mines might not be near Disney Vero. Still awawating word if my parent's hopuse has had any damage as they are here in NY. My son is in college in St. Augustine with no power and not much food. His classes are cancelled indefinitely. Any word on How Disney Vero came thru the storm?

This was posted on another thread. Also Wabasso was the northern part of the wall of the eye.

I've been reading the local BB forum for VB residents... One of the locals site a quick drive by of the resort... (This was posted in the last 10 mins or so..)

"Just back from Vero Beach beachside. Most damage is just trees, shingles, awnings, fences and carports. Minimal structural damage seen on drive from Wabasso Bridge to Moorings South Passage. My observations: lots of trees down, most secondary roads not passable. Summer place: houses east of A1A closest to beach had severe roof damage (end of Shell Lane) no beach access left. Wabasso Park: no boardwalk or life guard stand. severe erosion Boppys and pizza shack still standing. Disney Resort: only minor visible damage from A1A some siding missing on bldg 14, few missing shingles here and there visible from Wabasso Beach. Sea Oaks: what a mess! no visible damage to homes or Beach Club trees at main entrance whipped beyond recognition. No signs of high water on roads friends live on Orchid Island Drive had only minor roof damage, all others looked about the same. Continuing down A1A, most damage confined to fences and trees. Trees and other foliage is so stripped bare you can actually see into Johns Island on both sides. Their on security is stationed at both entrances, only visible damage was the roof of the beach sidee guard shack. Central beach area: most side streets impassable still evidence of standing water on streets. Ocean Grill: still there, with what looks like minimal damage from Ocean Drive (could not see the east side.) Driftwood: some damage to roofs on the north side (but who can tell?) On to Moorings: clubhouse roof damaged, South Passage: minor roof damage some broken east facing windows. Galleons: only minimal damage to some roofs and carports. Moorings Marina: all boats visible seamed to be fine, lots of torn canvas a few visible bumps and scrapes where some boats were to close together. I will wrap this up with this observation, hew! Considering the circumstances it really was not as bad as it could have been. It will be awhile before things are back to normal, officers are checking ID.'s at the bridges. "

Manning -- thanks for sharing that info.

A neat place to visit while staying at Vero is the Frogman/UDT museum down in Fort Pierce.

You'll learn all about the land mines and training, there - great pictures, etc.

I'm adding, metal detector to the list of things I bring down next time :) , but seriously, there are people up and down that beach all the time with metal detectors, and the beach goes on for at least two miles in both directions.
