On contract documents do "unit numbers" refer to actual buildings?

We finally took the plunge, are getting our feet wet with a small SSR resale and are putting signatures on the documents.

Looking at all the paperwork I was just wondering about something--I know that we're buying points that represent an interest and not an actual piece of property, but on the contract documents do "unit numbers" refer to units and buildings? I mean the line on the contract that says that we're buying "An undivided .1685 % interest in Unit 35B Symbolized as 50 Vacation Points"--is there an actual building/villa to which that refers? It would be fun to look at the map of SSR and say "that's the building where we own 0.1685%" :cool1:

yup, it refers to a set block of rooms in the complex- someone on here should have a map of what is where.

It doesn't have any bearing on where you have to book though, for example if you bought Animal Kingdom in Jambo House, you can stay in Kidani

Yes, you now own a real estate title in a particular unit in a particular leasehold condominium for a particular length of time. This is a deeded ownership interest that is recorded in the official county records.

In the point-based system that DVC uses, it really doesn't matter which unit you have an interest in.

Here is the link to the document on the Orange County website that contains information about Unit 35. I didn't read through it so I don't know where in SSR the building is located but perhaps someone who knows SSR better than I do can help you with that: http://officialrecords.occompt.com/wb_or1/details.asp?doc_id=26860354&file_num=20050114106&doc_status=V

The particular Unit you own will matter in only one situation that I hope no owner ever experiences! If some disaster occurs (such as a fire or a hurricane) that destroys part of a resort Disney has the option not to rebuild that part. Those members who own a percentage of the destroyed Units would receive the insurance proceeds and would no longer be DVC members, assuming that was their only DVC contract.

ETA: Here is the other document related to Unit 35: http://officialrecords.occompt.com/...id=26860352&file_num=20050114104&doc_status=V

Unit 35B appears to be in the Springs section. It's the Springs building closest to Congress Park. It's a cluster of 4 2-br's, located on the first floor:
the 2 2-br's facing outward on the end, and the 2 2-br's facing front (the one under the GV, and the one next to it).

Wow!!! :worship: Really impressive research here, I didn't expect such detailed information and plans, thank you! Interesting to look at the actual plans and maps. I goofed and copied down the wrong number--it's not 35B, it's actually 36B (which was in the same set of plans), one of the Grand Villas, looks like it's still in the Springs.

Hmmm...I've read that all of WDW is carefully built to exceed the standards for disaster preparedness so won't worry too much about this one.

Fun to know that we "own" a little piece of the World, even though we may never stay in that particular villa.

Thanks to all for the responses!
