On board accounts

Hello, Trying to figure out how to arrange on board accounts. My wife is wanting to pay for most expenses, i.e. excursions, drinks, specialty dining. However, our daughter and son-in-law would like to cover souvenirs and gifts for themselves. How do we arrange accounts to facilitate this? My first thought was to have them place their cc for them, but I wasn’t sure about excursions, will they be accountable for their excursions if they have a cc on file? Any thoughts? Thanks

The deciding factor for onboard expenses is the room the person resides in for the cruise. If the younger generation has their own room, anything they purchase would be charged to their stateroom (that includes excursions). If y'all are together in a room, all charges come to the one room. For accounting, your ob account will show who purchased what, but any onboard credit and/or credit cards will be treated as one pool of funds. You would have to sort the wheat from the chaff later.

The way around this, is to pre-purchase onboard credit. If you daughter & her husband have their own room, you/your wife can purchase ob credit for their room (you'll need their reservation number & last name of the lead person on the reservation). I guess it's considered a gift.

I suppose, if y'all are in the same room, you can do the pre-purchase ob credit too, it just requires y'all to stay on top of who's charging what for what...if you follow

You can go to Guest Services and adjust the accounts and have things moved to your cabin. Did that when we were with our son and family 2019 in AK and the whole family in 2022.

Another option is for whomever is not the official person paying for the room (that is, whomever did not put a credit card on file) to stop by Guest Services to pay for charges that they want to pay for.

For example, if you put your card down for your son and daughter-in-law's room but they want to pay for shop purchases, they can stop by after the purchase and ask Guest Services to charge their card for the amount they spent.

Similarly, if they use their card as the card of record, you can stop by and apply your card for payments towards an day of drinks afterwards. As mentioned above, you can pay for excursions and beverage tastings in advance with an onboard credit gift, since you will know the exact amount when you book them, or you can apply a payment during the cruise.

If the four of you are together for specialty dining, just present your Key to the World card for payment.

Your accounting will detail who charged how much and for what. That will make it easy to either stop by guest services to put select items on a different card or settle up after the cruise is over.

can you set up a different credit card assigned to individuals in the room or is it always 1 credit card per stateroom?

That's what I would like to know. I would prefer to set one card up for each in our party so I do not have to separate out the charges later.

Each adult can set-up a different card for charging.
OP - I suggest either buying stateroom credit in advance or stopping by Guest Services to make a payment on your daughter's room. You can plan the amount for excursions and adult dining. Drinks will be tricky so maybe just estimate an amount and include that. Otherwise they would need to give you either a listing or sum total for reimbursement, which I wouldn't feel comfortable doing but maybe they are fine with it.
