On average, are most 6-year olds 40 inches or taller??

When my oldest started kindergarten, during orientation at school it was easy to spot her in the crowd of other 5 year olds. she was the one who was a head taller than everyone else.

When my youngest started kindergarten, my wife wanted to see them get off the bus at the school. There the (then) 8 year old was walking along with everyone else and we couldn't see the youngest (then) 5 year old. When they got closer, we finally saw her, right there holding her older sister's hand. During orientation before school started we noticed that there wasn't a single kid shorter than her. She is tiny, the smallest one in kindergarten (5-6 classes, morning and afternoon with ~15-18 in each class, so a lot of kids.)

I just measured her a week ago. She is now 6 1/2 years old and she is 43 inches. She is still the very shortest one in her class.

My oldest DS11 who is snall for his age (some kids in his younger brothers second grade class are as tall as him) was just over 40" at 4. His brother 8 was also just at 40" when he was barely 4 (he is an average sized kid). Then my youngest DS5 (who is way above average - only about 4 inches shorter and 5 pounds lighter than his 11 year old brother) was tall enough at just over 3 years. So I think you will be good to go!!

Yes. I do not think I know a 6 year old who is not 40 inches. DD was just 4 when we went and she was 40 inches. DD5 is a little over 43 inches and DS7 is a little over 46 inches. We are a short family so you should be fine.

Hopefully they have been to some kind of park before and like rides or that is where the real problem maybe. DSIL is 22 and does not like rollercoasters, not even kid ones. She does not go an anything that goes high in the air, even if it is a simple ride. Both of my kids would ride several things she would not want to ride.

My 5 1/2 year old daughter is 44 inches, last summer she was around 42 inches so I would think that unless she's on the short side she is probably tall enough.

My 2 year old granddaughter (nearly 3) is 38 inches so could only ride Kali River and Barnstormer. Her sister was 40 inches when she was 3 (nearly 4). She rode everything then. Now that she's 5 she won't ride anything. We don't know if we scared her too badly when she was 3ish and COULD ride, but she was tall enough so she did ride then. Seems the older she gets, the more afraid she becomes and she goes to WDW TWICE a year every year since she was born, so it's not new to her. The 2 yo loved Kali River when she rode it 2 weeks ago.

My 6 year old son, who is the smallest boy in his kindergarten class is 42.5 in. You should be good for the 40 in. rides.

Thanks!! I guess now I have to figure out what this little girl will want to ride at WDW!

My DD6 is 49" tall without shoes. I'd say about 25% of her class would meet the 48" mark. The smallest girl in her class (she is tiny) in most definitely taller than 40".

My DD4 who is very small for her age is 39".

Our dd reached 40 inches 6 days before her 3rd birthday. By the time she was 6 she was 47 inches tall. She is 9 now and is 57 inches tall.

DD was 6 when we first went to WDW she was about 49 inches, she could just barely get on RnR.
DS was 3 and he was not 40 inches then, he will be 5 the first week in June and he is right at 43 inches now, hopefully 44 by tommorrow. :goodvibes

Neither one are what I would consider tall for thier age, they are pretty much in line with thier classmates.

My 5 year old who is very small was 40"+ when we went in December, and my then 6 year old (average size) was tall enough to do the 48" rides. Heck, my 2 year old has a chance of being 40" by December (but she is HUGE - almost 37" at her 2 year appt).

Yes, a "typical" 6 year old will definitely be over 40 inches. On our last trip, my son was 4.5 and average height, and could ride all the 40 inch rides. He turns 5 next week and I think he's about 44 inches.

dd was just 40 inches last year at age 3.5 - the only ride they wouldn't let her on was test track (she was upset at that) this year she's about 42 inches at 4.5

my guess is that most 6 year olds would be at least 42 - 48 inches.

kids today seem to be much taller then the average kid when i was that age. ( gaud now i sound like my mother lol)

just ask the mom to do a quick measure to be sure.

have fun

Well, I'm sorry if this has been addressed on page 2 or 3...I lost patience with the pages loading slowly and just decided to reply.

Here is a link to a page that shows the height percentile chart for girls.

http://www.halls.md/chart/girls-height-w.htm

She would be in the 2nd percentile (very very low) if she was exactly 40" tall. 44" rides are likely possibilities with a 6 year old, and if she's closer to the top of the growth chart percentiles, you may be able to go on RnR with her (if she wants to ride it, that is).

My DD is 6.5 next month and is currently 48.5inches tall, however the is no chance of getting her on anything scary - She flatly refuses.

This summer will be her 4th trip and I will be interested in seeing if she can be persauded onto any of the bigger rides, last year she loved Barnstormer and just about tolerated Spalsh Mountain.

DD was 4 in April and was just 40" with shoes on and I think she's average for a girl. My 6 year old nephew was just over 48" and was able to ride Rock N Rollercoaster.

My child is nearly 6.5 and is one of the two smallest children in his class. He is 44 inches and 40 pounds.

Just FYI, Kit finally got to where he was brave enough to ride Barnstormer and the troll ride in Norway this past Thanksgiving weekend and he loved them. He is very afraid of most of the other thrill rides (I don't think we will get him on the dinosaur ride in AK again anytime soon). Just because a child is phyically big enough doesn't mean they are ready for a ride.

So now we will have a 6-year old in our group, but I have not met her yet to measure her (what a great first impression, huh? :lmao:) I am wondering how to plan for touring with a 6-year old and wonder if, ON AVERAGE, most 6-year olds are tall enough to ride thrill rides that require them to be 40 inches or taller. Now I know there are always exceptions, but I'm curious to see if I'm on target or not.

Thanks! IVY :flower3:

I think it's fairly likely. My 2.5 year old dd is somewhere between 38-39". My almost five year old is 46" and some change. I think you'll be fine. Have a great trip!

Most are well past that.
My DS was 40 inches not long after his 3rd birthday. He will be 5 in a few days and is 45 inches
