? on Add on Points

We own points at BWV with a June use year. I'm a little confused about people using their add on points if the add on is at a different resort. Say we purchased an additional 50 pts at BCV. We can reserve our points at BWV at the 11 month window, but we would not be able to reserve using the add on pts at BCV until the 7 month window, right? So if we wanted to use all our point from both resorts on the same trip, we may not be able to get the dates we want at the 7 month point. Am I missing something? How does anyone who's done this handle add on points at a different resort?

You would be able to book at the 11 month window at both home resorts, but you could not use BCV points at BWV until the 7 month window, and vice versa. You could use your points for an 11 month reservation at thier respective resorts i.e, book some nights at BWV and some nights at BCV, if you dont mind moving during your stay. Clear as mud??

Yes, you can only use those add-ons for BCV at BCV 11 months out. Personally I do not care for the idea of owning at two places. However, there can be some advantages that some like. For example, buy 50 points at BCV and then go there every third year (by banking and borrowing) using 150 points at 11 months out. Or the reason for the add-on is to accumulate enough additional points to reserve a weekend day to turn that normally 5 day or 6 day trip into one day longer. Weekend days are generally very easy to get even when reserving 7 months out and even during busy seasons because large numbers of DVC members avoid using points on weekends. But if that what you want to do an add-on at another resort makes sense if you cannot buy one at your home anymore as you can reserve with regular points at the resort 11 months out for those weekdays and then add a weekend day at 7 months.

We are buying a BCV add-on (anywhere from 100-160pts keep going back and forth) Anyway, I digress....

We own the bulk of our points at OKW, coz that is where we most want the 11 month window. The Add On points will be used for bigger trips.... for example cruising. You can book them 11 months out (as well as the Disney Collectiong, Congierge, etc...) So we will combine our two resort points for the 11 month window elsewhere. AND we plan on banking and borrowing the smaller add-on points to spend a week at BCV over the holidays!!

We plan on doing the exact same thing as Laurabearz - I have checked points for a 1BDR (week stay) during one of the seasons - not sure right now if it's choice or dream - and split that count in half. Banking and/or borrowing for my stays at BCV or towards cruise and/or concierge collection. Patiently waiting in NY>
