I think this is Disney's first itinerary with Marseilles officially on there. Last year, I believe they went to Marseilles once only as a fluke since the weather was too poor to tender into Villefranche the day before. I'm not sure what day of the week it was. You may want to check over on cruise critic because other ships probably port there much more frequently.

Sundays are really hard in France as yes most places are closed. Aix is a beautiful town and worth just walking around. Marseilles is a very interesting City but it is a big fairly industrial city. I would go to Aix.

Thank you ! I will also ask on cruise critic - in case there is more experience there. everything looks so good and i have no idea what to prioritize.

We were on the Magic when the port was switched from Monte Carlo to Marseille. We took the DCL excursion to Avignon with a side trip to a winery...they were both awesome. Rained a bit at the beginning, but sunny for wine tasting. Would repeat that excursion in a heartbeat.

We too were on the Magic. We whipped out our Rick Steve's Med Cruise book along with Google while we were still docked in Florence. (our departure we delayed for some reason while some family disembarked)

We followed Rick Steves, took train to Cassis and took a small boat tour of the calanques (fjords) in the National Park. While our small boat with 10 people, which stopped took individual photos out the back, etc, we were passed by the official DCL port adventure. I took a few photos of their boat as it passed and shared with our FB group. Afterwards, had lunch overlooking the Cassis harbor before heading back to Marsceille

There was only like 6 of us on the first shuttle. When we were got off the shuttle we had Rick Steves and were trying to get our baring to get to the subway to train station and a crew member was standing there. She was going to the other option Rick Steves recomends and after reading the book asked if she could come along with us.

Anyway, long way to get around to Do It Yourself to Cassis and the National Park boat tours is very easy. And enjoyable day out in Europe without the non-stop go go go that Rome and Florence were

Thanks,
Doug
