On a search for a healthier me.

Haha,
that is funny.a mickey bar and popcorn for lunch.amazing.
and i saw pictures of you from the show your face thread and you look amazing.!
And i have another question
what would be some good healthy snacks when i am hungary and have the good nutrients or something that is good for me in it?

Okay,
so for those 5 days a week would that be including my basketball practice which is an hour and a half and then dance class which is an hour.
i will give up on sodas too.
i am not a huge water person,i will drink more water though, and i drink lots of orange jucice.
and i don't have a wii but i have a play station 2 with dance dance revelution and there is an weight lose thing on it.i will do that when i have spare time just for funn and i will lose some weight from it.or just some calories.
and i have another question,
ummm,
if i was walking for 30 minutes a day,a good way to get warmed up and my heart rate up could i do some jumping jacks or sit ups or push ups or something like that?

Healthy Snacks:
Any type of berry. Bluberries, strawberries, rasberries. Again watch the portions though, fruit is filled with sugar(not bad sugar but to much of it is still not good for you)
Apples
Carrots
Brocoli
My personal favorite: Granola bars. May not be the healthiest but still good.
Crackers
pretzels
baked chips
bananas

Again watch the portions. All of those foods are good for you, as long as you don't eat them in excess. The food pyramid is a great guide to help show you how much of what you should be getting. I mean you don't have to follow it exactly, but using it as a rough outline would be a great place to start looking for snacks ect.
Also instead of bagels, trying whole grain english muffins. Sooooo good, and so much better for you.
Also whole grain breads instead of the white bread.

& I noticed in your other post you would start drinking more orange juice. Just remember portions, and servings, and juice can be just as bad for you if you double your intake of it ect. I usually drink about one glass of juice, one glass of 2% milk, and then the rest is water. Occasionally a Dr. Pepper(because I am a Dr. Pepper freakkk) but usually its water. You will learn to crave water lol, trust me I do.

Wow,you are good at all of this stuff.

Nuts and seeds are good. Almonds, peanuts, pecans, and cashews are all really good to have once a day. Any fruit is good and vegetables, I personally adore strawberries. Bananas are good for digestion, like either in the morning or before exercising. Kashi and Liveactive cereal is so good. If you like rice, go for brown instead of white. Maybe try broccoli and rice or cheese and broccoli.

If you have basketball practice, and dance I think that's more than enough to get started. I think you've got the exercise portion in, perhaps you just want to work on the diet? I know I'd probably be so tired after both.

Lipton green tea is good, and I like raspberry tea from sonic. I wasn't that much into water either, I actually hated it, but I've grown to liking it now. Maybe you can make some popcicles out of your orange juice.

Yeah. That's good. =) You might also want to do some simple stretches like touching your toes and just normal things like that to stretch you out for walking.

what is the sugar that is in it?

just natural sugars. They are not bad at all and should not be confused with the same sugars as in lets say chocolate cake, but in excess they will lead to an unbalanced diet. The body needs a little of everything, and if lets say all your snacks were fruits and berries, and you didn't eat much whole grains ect, it would not be "balanced." Which is why using the food pyramid as a guide is a good place to start when organzing what you want to eat ect.

& I don't think I am that good, I am no professional and half of what I say is just from my experience ect haha. I just care a lot about whats in food and how it affects me. & the whole one glass is just a guidline like I said, if you want more feel free :), it is in no way bad for you just TOO much, may not make you have as healthy and balanced a diet as you could you know?

Granola bars have alot of hidden calories. Just FYI. Your best off making them yourselves. They usually contain ALOT of sugar!

I love cold grapes. Very satifying and you don't feel too bad eating them.

Also, get in the habit now of making healthy choices because when college hits, you won't have alot of this kind of stuff around alot, so its good to know a portion size, and how to make 1 meal into 2. :)

What is kashi and liveactive cereal?
and what about if i am walking for about 30 minutes then could i run for 10 then finish by walking 20 minutes then stop.or should i just start by walking first?

Ohhhhhh.
and i was wondering you might not know the answer
but i am drinking a lot of vitamin water lately,it says that it is good for you but i don't know for sure.like before i drank energy drinks then i had to stop because of basketball and dance.
so is vitamin water actually healthy?
and what is so bad about energy drinks?

What is kashi and liveactive cereal?
and what about if i am walking for about 30 minutes then could i run for 10 then finish by walking 20 minutes then stop.or should i just start by walking first?

I treat vitamin water a lot like gatorade because it is not bad for you as long as you are active(which you sound like you are) and sweat a lot and need those nutrients back. Its just when people sit around all day and drink 5 bottles of gatorade(my brother) where the problem occurs and it becomes unhealthy.
& I know absolutly nothing about energy drinks sorry. I don't drink them because I don't care for them. I think they taste like poison :rotfl:

& I know granola bars are not the BEST thing in the world, but they are better than lets say cheetos, or anything like that you know? Plus I need to get my chocolate fix somehow. haha. :)

Kashi is a brand that makes waffles, cereal, granola bars, and many other things. They have a lot of healthy things. I love the heart to heart honey toasted cereal, and their waffles.
Liveactive is another brand that has cereal with a lot of fiber. I'm eating mixed berry kind right now, but I love their nut and cluster cereal. You can find it at probably any store.

Really it's up to you. It's probably best, if you want to run. Walk for 10, run for 10, then walk again for 10. Which gives you 30 minutes. That gets your heart started and slows it down for when you end your walk/run. It's fine and great to run as well as walk, but you want to walk a bit at the end that way your heart slows down instead of you just stopping cold after a run.

(This is from personal knowledge. I've never had an eneergy drink. I've also read it can cause dehydration, rise in blood pressure and less sleep)
Some energy drinks have A LOT of sugar. They also contain some caffine for the energy. I also don't like to think of drinking energy, it just sounds disgusting. (I think Hilary said this in a past thread...so I'm borrowing her line. ;]) A teacher last year measure out the sugar content in this bottle of juice, energy drink, soda and some other things and energy drinks had the most.

I loove Kashi, it tastes good and it's healthy, and I've never heard of liveactive.
But... I LOVE Larabars even more!
I eat them after I run all the time.

I absolutely love yoga. It's my ultimate exercise. This is the first thing I'll always say when someone asks me. That's what I started out with and lost probably ten pounds just from it. Usually you can get videos for about $15 each. I reccomend Gaiam. It really works your thighs and calves. It makes you really really flexible and very calming for me.

I also like boxing on the wii fit and I like to do super hula hoop that really helps your hips. I do lunges sometimes, and I like to run in place a lot. When I use my wii fit and do the free step I usually lift 5lbs weight as I walk.
We did pilates at school and it helps your core immensely so I'm hoping to get a couple videos there. Really there is tons of exercises, although some aren't so fun. Dance and basketball are great so you're starting out well!
/quote]

A lot of my yoga videos were wwwaaaayyyy cheaper than that, mose were only 7 or 8 dollars. And yea, pilates are really good too.

Do you think it is really possible to lose 2 pounds a week?

If you're dedicated, it's easy, but if you don't really believe you can, you won't lookse as much weight as you could.

I don't think so...
It has a lot of sugar and high-fructose corn sugar, any corn sugar is bad for you, so it's best to always read ingredients before you buy something. HFCS is TERRIBLE for you, it's got a lot of calories.
And it doesn't need to be drank whenever you feel like because most people are not vitamin-deficient if they eat properly.
Energy drinks are unhealthy for a billion reasons, go read the nutritional information and you'll see why straight from there.
So really, instead of wasting money on that, drink regular filtered water, and eat foods with the vitamins you need.

Intervals are good. Go at your own pace though, start running for a warmup for more than 5 minutes, and then run for 3, then go back to walking for 5, and running for three, and repeat until you feel like your ready to stop, ALWAYS ending in a walk for a cool down.
I always do intervals or hills on treadmills.

Where do you get your videos Ally?
I know you told me, but I don't remember.
A website I think...

Everywhere, my sister gets me a ton of them from the flea market too, along with the street signs she buys me.
But the ones I showed you before are Namaste, they're good for beginner and advanced, I use them all the time when I don't do the sequences I made myself.

Thanks. :)

How much yoga do you do a day?
I think I'm pushing myself too far with it, because my muscles are sore and I read that it isn't suppose to hurt. It doesn't hurt really though, it's just the following days my legs are sore a bit.

2-3 hours usually.
I do it in the morning when I wake up, halfway through the day, and then before I go to bed.
If your muscles are hurting, don't push yourself too hard, and do a really good cool down at the end.
Namaste videos have an amazing one that I always use.

Hm. All mine are from Gaiam.
I have this CD on my Zune that's for when you first wake up before you get out of bed that I usually do. It's really easy stuff for about 10 minutes and just breathing.
Then I have one in the morning, one for regular time and then one for bed. But they're all pretty short. Comes up to about an hour for all 3. I need to find something more intermediate since most of the stuff is just warrior and other things.

I've been working on Urdhva Dhanurasana.
I can hold for about 10 seconds before I drop. I don't have the arm strength yet.
I need to work on my balance too, I keep falling over on the simple stuff. -_-

okay.
thanks for the info on the vitamin water.
another question is that right at this moment i am eating yellow nacho chips with organic salsa.
is that alright or is that not healthy for you?

i will get my mom to look into buying it.
and my mom puts flaxseed into our pancakes and stuff like that.

okayy.
i will do some of those things for running and walking.

you are all such great help.!

hello. i will help you not let this thread die :]
so i have somthing to say about vitamin water. most people look at the label and say, oh its only 50 calories, but its not, because the serving size is 3 so its actually 150 calories. i used to do that, but now i know.
i also want to lose 10 - 15 pounds.
i will update if i lose anything. but it will probably be after christmas, with all the cookies and cake and stuff xD.

-_-
I haven't been able to do my regular exercise for two day because of all my schoolwork. I've been sitting on my butt and it's really annoying me.

ohhh,
i will get my mom to look into buying it.
and my mom puts flaxseed into our pancakes and stuff like that.

you are all such great help.!

I'm pretty sure flaxseed is very good for as is most any kind of seed.

I need to stop eating all this crap food. Work/School/Exams are making me unhealthy again. I have no time to actually eat anything, so basically all I get our snacks all the time. I mean they are not horrible snacks, but I need nutrients. My body feels discusting at the moment.
/end rant. lmao.

Anyways goal to be reached by March: Lose 3-5 lbs, putting me at 125lbs. Be tighter/more toned all over. Be able to run two miles 5 times a week. Get my 6 pack back. :) Plus eat healthy, ect. I think i can do this.
