On a search for a healthier me.

I love Live 365 radio =)
Only problem is sometimes the stream gets wonky and stops playing until I mess around with the volume.

I just wanted to say Congrats on your progress =)!

Is it late to really join?

You might think I'm a little too young to want to lose weight, but my weight makes me feel very uncomfortable. Especially when all of my friends are toothpicks.

I have a full body problem. I use to swim, but I got sick of my coach, and made a stupid decision to quit. I really wish I didn't. But it's a little too late for that.

I'm REALLY now comfortable expressing these things to my parents. My mom and my sister just recently called me fat, and it really got to me. But I know I'm not fat. I'm just a little thick for my age.

My stomach, and my legs are the worst features on my body. My thighs are so huge, they rub together when I walk, and that makes it impossible to be comfortable in any type of swimsuit, boardshorts or not.
It's also EXTREMELY hard to find pants that fit me right! I can fit into a size one in juniors, but somes there so lose around my calves, but WAY to tight around my thighs, and I can't wear a three because me waist isn't that big, and they kinda fall down. And I've tried belts and stuff, but it just makes it look weird.

Also, my stomach. It's disgustingly huge. I suck in, alot. because I don't feel comfortable unless I do that. I have to wear two tanktops under my shirts so nobody notices. When I sit, I cross my arms around my stomach so nobody can notice it.

I want to lose 10 pounds by 2009. But I kinda figured that's not possible for me. My parents don't let me run around the neighborhood, but I figured, since my parents are lazy, I could wake up around five in the morning, run around the neighborhood a few times (it's really small.) and hopefully get back in about a half hour, take a shower, and just start getting ready for school by six. But if I get caught, I'm dead.

---

I LOVE healthy food! I love fruit, vegetables, milk, water, tea, whatever, you name it. But my mom always buys crap like chips, soda, ect. She WONT STOP. She recently lost ten pounds, so she thinks its alright to binge EVERY day.

Well, she's wrong. And I said to her just yesterday,

"If you keep eating all that crap, your gonna get huge."

She said,

"I just lost ten pounds!"

and then I said..

"Well, your gonna gain it back if you dont keep your mouth shut. You keep putting crap like this into it!"

Since thanksgiving, she made three pumpkin pies, and a HUGE cranberry desert.

She eats a piece of pie EVERY DAY, and three slices of the cranberry stuff.
And her portions are huge.

I keep asking my dad if we can go into the gym, he always says yes. But we never go.

---

Tomorrow is monday, and starting tomorrow: (since today is almost over..)

No junk.

NOTHING.
No chips, soda, chocolate, nasty fries, pizza, no nothing.

Honestly, I probably eat WAY more than 4000 calories a day.

According to this online thing, I'm only supposed to eat 1,672 calories every day.
So I'm gonna start eating less junk, and more healthy foods.
And maybe look on the back to make sure it doesn't have that many calories. -.- :)

I'm also saving to buy a Wii Fit because 'Santa' :p got us a Wii last year. :)

I lost 50 lbs about a year and a half ago, I weigh 155 now. Trust me you can easily lose 10 lbs. by 2009 if you want to bad enough. You really don't even need to run or do any cardio whatsoever if you diet right. Sure can help cut your body but I've learned that it's about 85% diet and 15% cardio. The important thing is not to starve yourself. If you go long periods without eating and starve yourself you will NOT lose weight. You will at first but all you're doing is permanently messing up your metabolism and as soon as you start eating normally again you'll put even more weight back on.

I'll suggest to you what I do......5 meals a day. You probably want to intake less calories than me since I'm a guy and I lift weights daily, in-taking my weight in grams of protein but it's the same general idea.

You basically want to be eating every three hours throughout the day, healthy meals for you I'd say in between 200-300 calories per meal. Of course during dinner you'll probably be eating more calories than any other meal, that's fine just take that into account. If your able to I'd suggest not eating anything after dinner, it makes a huge difference. If you have to eat something make that your 5th meal and I'd suggest fruit and/or yogurt. You can have some thing with carbs but just make sure you eat 2 hours before you go to bed, never eat right before bed.

sorry if that was too much lol basically eat healthy meals, 5 meals a day eating every 3 hours and you'll lose weight....if you want even more detail lemme know lol

Cassidy, I'm not going to tell you, you don't need to lose weight, because I don't know you and I used to hate when people told me that when I knew otherwise.

BUT, I think if you're a size one in juniors there is probably absolutely no problem with your weight whatsoever.
And how old are you? 12/13? I remember I had the hardest time finding jeans and I wore a size probably 16 at that time. I really think it's just a certain point in your life where you're body is growing and it's hard to find the right size clothes at all. I think you'll grow out of that. For them being too tight around your thighs, I have a feeling you go for skinny jeans maybe? All of my jeans are flare and are bigger near my calves, maybe if you do go for a 2 size (If they make those...) you might like that they are bigger around your calves?

I still have problems with it right now. I wear a size 6. But all the jeans that they have I like are sizes 5's and 7s. 7's are fine until you start moving around and they stretch out. Too big. 5's I can barely button but I'm afraid it'll rip. And no 6's. -_-

If you want to run, try running in place? Do you have a yard? Maybe run the outside of your yard a few times every morning.
As for your thighs I noticed yoga did me a whole lot of good for that and for my calves. Mine hardly rub together at all anymore.

This is the hardest part for me. While I'm trying to stay healthy and eat great and exercise, my family buys not so great stuff. And it's tempting, but you have to get past it. We have tons of pop, but after I just got water a few times, it was just natural for me to skip the soda in the fridge.

Binging is never good, but I've also tried talking to my mom, because instead of exercising she hardly eats anything during the day and then eats a meal with us for dinner. I try to tell her that she's not eating enough, but she doesn't listen. I'm still trying to figure out how to talk her out of it. Good Luck.

Maybe talk to your dad and set up a day of the week and time where you two can go. Keep reminding him, and tell him it's really important to you. Maybe you can make it a weekly activity, and if he doesn't take you, talk to him about it.

Good Luck! Wii fits are fun!

Also I hope everyone remembers if you have a hard day and or week, don't give up! It happened this week. No exercise, junk food all week and I feel terrible. But you can't give up, start over again and try hard!

I see that you need a size 6. Your not going to find a 6 in juniors if you want a 6 you'll have to go to womens which generaly are the same styles they just sit up higher on the hips...Try old navy jeans...

Okay,i never really expressed this before.

I really think i need to lose weight,
i weight about 160 pound.
I want to be about 120 by the summer.
i know that is like impossible, but i fell so uncomfortable wearing bathsuits.
i just want to be skinnier.

i try to eat healthy, like when i am hungary after school i eat carrots and dip.
the bad thing is that i don't eat my lunch alot.
i thought that would help but it really didn't.
i am eating cheesies right now which arn't helping.
like does anyone have any ideas of what i can do too help lose SOME weight.
i stay at school for lunch so i am kind of limited to certin lunches.
what kind of lunches could i have?
and i have a treadmill,i take dance class,and i am on a basketball team.
should i use my treadmill everyday?

I really just need help and someone to guied me,
because i tried this before and it lasted for like 2 days.

Thanks, I'll have to look there. :goodvibes

Alex, I don't think it's impossible. I think you can do it, if you put your mind to it. What I hear is it's most healthy to lose 2 pounds a week. 2x4 is 8 lbs a month and in 5 months that's 40lbs. Which would be near May. I'm sure since you do a lot of exercising you have muscle which does weigh more, so even if you don't make it that weight I'm sure you'll have muscle and look absolutely great.

Do you eat breakfast?

It's better to eat a bigger breakfast if you do eat 3-4 meals a day because it gives you time to work it off while after you eat a larger dinner you usually don't do much. (Although I'm guilty of always eating more at dinner)

Could you possibly take your lunch? Maybe make a sandwhich which an apple, or mix up a salad and put it in a rubbermaid container which some dressing that you like? Carrots and all. I love broccoli so I eat as much as I can of it. Maybe take yogurt, or fruit like strawberries and things.

Running on a treadmill is great exercise! Even walking for awhile is good, I'd definately reccomend it. I also notice if I exercise I don't feel as hungry and if I drink a lot of fluids it helps curb my hunger.

(Still encouraging all of you to join the month exercise goal on WISH. It makes you work harder if you have it written, I think!)

I understand completely about not exactly being motivated to stay healthy. What I did to help is I found healthy, filling foods that I enjoy. Be aware of serving sizes. Not exactly following the food labels to the t, but being able to understand what they are saying and following the serving sizes really helps you cut back on unhealthy foods. My usual lunch includes: 1. Turkey Sandwhich with lettus and Tomatoe, and a little mustard. 2. One serving of goldfish. I usually eye it, but I used to be eating twice or three much goldfish as one serving, and that is not good. 3. An apple. 4. Bottle of water. I used to think "oh that will never ever fill me up" but honestly it does. If I do happen to forget my lunch one day, and I eat chips and a slushie I end up being soooo hungry after its crazy. Of course you can change that around to things you enjoy, but my point is to just find some foods that are healthy and filling.

Also cut out pretty much all soda, fatty, greasy, ect foods. This will give you more energy, and you will definently see a difference withen a few weeks. An occasional soda, or piece of cake, or ice cream whatever you like is fine, just not every day in excess you know what I mean? Also be sure to eat something light every few hours. Instead of having three large meals, have 5-6 smaller ones. This really does work, and keeps you from getting overly hungry, and then binging.

As for exercise, try walking(power walking) for about 30 minutes a day. See if you can push your self longer eventually. After a while you can step it up and start jogging, and just keep trying to go longer, not faster. I always used to try to jump right into jogging, running, ect and I would get discouraged because I couldn't go for as long as I wanted and would just quit for weeks. When I started out just walking 30 minutes a day and built up it became A LOT easier.

I have been increasingly interested in my health ever since my grandpa died two years ago from heart disease. My mom is headed down the same path, and heart disease already runs in my family. I am not paranoid about my health, I am just concious about what goes into my body, and what exersising I do. If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

i always choose hamburgers which are good for you.

Yes, it is possible. 2 weeks ago I lost 3 pounds in a week from exercising about an hour and a half each day. Granted, the next week when I completely failed I gained 2 of it back. But it's definately possible. You don't have to do it. It's all about what you can do. Don't set the bar high, because when I first started exercising and dieting, I didn't lose a pound until about 3 weeks later.

Personally, I follow calories. When I make a sandwhich I use either turkey or ham and have about 3 pieces. Regular american cheese, lettuce, 2 pieces of whole grain bread and light mayo. That usually comes out to be at 400 calories then I have an apple or some yogurt.

Yay! :D

Alicia gave some great advice. Good luck!

It is actually recomended when on an exersise/diet plan to be losing around 1-2 lbs a week. My sandwhich includes: two pieces of turkey(fresh from the deli, not from like a package), one piece of provolone cheese(again fresh from the deli), a piece of lettuce, two slices of tomatoe, and a dot of mustard. I don't really follow calories TOO much, so I have no idea how much that is.
& it seems like you are really active already which will help a lot :)
& as for fastfood, I usually try and get the fruit/side salad instead of fries. Water/milk for a drink instead of the soft drink. Try and get the smallest hamburger(like a single patty) with no maynaise, mustard, ketchup all that on it, but keep the lettuce/tomatoe, whatever else you might want on it, just take the sauce off, all of that will cut A LOT of calories out.
Also anything grilled at fast food places will cut out a lot of calories as well. Like instead of a fried chicken sandwhich, get a grilled chicken sandwhich, ect. Eating fast food can be as unhealthy/healthy as you make it. :)

I love this thread :)

I would like to just get in shape...I work out every night to music, but I don't actually have a "routine." I just dance around to music and stuff, and doing stomach crunches. I don't really have the ability to run right now, since it's winter and I don't enjoy running in winter lol...and plus my neighborhood isn't the safest place..

I have stayed away from junk food that I just don't need, and it's working really well. If anyone has any advice, feel free to give it lol :)

You are all inspiring me too do all of this.

haha, its really no problem. I am not a complete health freak(I know it sounds like it haha), I still basically eat what I want when I want, but most of the time I just don't want the unhealthy stuff lol. Like when I go to disney I am the WORST eater. Like we went for a day trip today, and I eat a mickey bar, and popcorn, and thats was my lunch haha. Its just I am for the most part concious about trying to eat healthy, and then of course exersising and all that jazz. I am not the skinniest person in the world, but I am healthy and thats all that matters lol.

I absolutely love yoga. It's my ultimate exercise. This is the first thing I'll always say when someone asks me. That's what I started out with and lost probably ten pounds just from it. Usually you can get videos for about $15 each. I reccomend Gaiam. It really works your thighs and calves. It makes you really really flexible and very calming for me.

I also like boxing on the wii fit and I like to do super hula hoop that really helps your hips. I do lunges sometimes, and I like to run in place a lot. When I use my wii fit and do the free step I usually lift 5lbs weight as I walk.
We did pilates at school and it helps your core immensely so I'm hoping to get a couple videos there. Really there is tons of exercises, although some aren't so fun. Dance and basketball are great so you're starting out well!

As for the exercise, it's really up to you. I started doing probably 30 minutes a day before I had the wii fit and over the summer.
After I got it I would do a lot more yoga and I really wanted to bump up my exercise so I made it a goal to do 60 minutes of wii fit a day.
It's actually very hard to find the time, since 60 minutes of wii fit equals probably about 2 hours of playing. Sometimes I have to skip some because of school and other activities. I have yoga videos that equal to about an hour, I just make the time because I love to exercise.

I think you should start out small. Maybe 30 minutes a day 5 times a week. And as you start to work more, increase your time, if you'd like.

And I know how hard it is to start exercising. You start get all sweaty and tired and just want to give up. Everytime I tried to start getting healthy I'd quit because of it. I'm not gonna lie, starting out is hard work. I just had to keep telling myself I was gonna be healthy and look great and reminding myself how much I wanted it. I never thought I'd like to exercise but as everyone says, you start to love it.

I also gave up soda in June and it was a REALLY big help for back aches and headaches. I also hardly eat anything fried. If you want fries or chicken, bake them. They taste sooo good and I always feel better knowing they're a lot healthier then greasy fried food.

Sorry, I make the longest posts ever. I get excited about this kind of stuff because I love it. lol.

that is funny.a mickey bar and popcorn for lunch.amazing.
and i saw pictures of you from the show your face thread and you look amazing.!
And i have another question
what would be some good healthy snacks when i am hungary and have the good nutrients or something that is good for me in it?

I get excited about this kind of stuff because I love it. lol.

Okay,
so for those 5 days a week would that be including my basketball practice which is an hour and a half and then dance class which is an hour.
i will give up on sodas too.
i am not a huge water person,i will drink more water though, and i drink lots of orange jucice.
and i don't have a wii but i have a play station 2 with dance dance revelution and there is an weight lose thing on it.i will do that when i have spare time just for funn and i will lose some weight from it.or just some calories.
and i have another question,
ummm,
if i was walking for 30 minutes a day,a good way to get warmed up and my heart rate up could i do some jumping jacks or sit ups or push ups or something like that?
