The motels on 192 are filled with homeless and hungry families who have lost their homes :( So sad.

The social worker sees between 5-15 new homeless kids a day :(

There was a documentary a year or so ago about similar situation by Disneyland it focused on the kids that lived in the motel. Its a very sad situation. Really can open your eyes.

Just saw on the news one of the Orlando places appears to have burned to the ground last night.

When we were there last week we rode down 192 looking for a Steak & Shake. It was really depressing, it looks very bad with lots of vacant hotels & buildings. We have stayed in that area before & even in the better part of it you can see a change for the worse. Sad.

You can watch the entire piece on the 60 Minutes website. I just did. What an eye opening and sobering moment this has been for me.
So many children in poverty. So many children living in these places. So many who have been pulled under by the unstable economy.

Very Very sad.:sad1:

It isn't just there, it is everywhere.. just open your eyes and look around! I work for the school district in my County and you would be surprised to hear how many children are homeless, living in hotels, cars, and tents in the woods. Life isn't all magical and sprinkled with pixie dust for everyone. Some kids I work with, the only meals they eat, are the ones they get from school.

Many of us take it for granted what we have. :sad2:
Just open your eyes and look around.. ....then thank God for what you have..
and remember those who don't.. donate your child's old things to your local school :thumbsup2 they will find a child who can use them...

We went to a Atlanta Braves game last year...strange feeling driving through the surrounding neighborhoods, which are not the nicest in the city...then entering the stadium...which is a very nice baseball fantasy-land...which is not exactly cheap depending on where you sit...plus the way-overpriced food...you sit there watching people playing a GAME...and getting paid very well to do it...while just outside the ballpark, there are folks living in poverty...many of whom you'll get to interact with on your way out.

the poor will always be with us...just stating the contrast from life inside the ballpark vs life around the park.
