Hi guys

Getting ready to booking my next trip, we are thinking of going to the Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate. Would love to hear any comments on this place. Also we are thinking of going with First Choice in their premier service from East Midlands so if anybody has flown this service would love to know if you was happy with it.

Thanks
Bekki

We haven't stayed at the Omni Championsgate, but we have visited several times to eat at David's Club which we love. It's an upscale resort on a par with the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes and Rosen Shingle Creek (both of which we have stayed at). We're considering a 5 night stay in August as they've got some ridiculously cheap rates for our dates ($132 a night).

Hi Bekki,

We are staying there next March before the rest of the stay at a private villa.

We have booked one of the villa's at Omni though because we really want cooking facilities and that extra room. The whole resort looks fantastic and is our preffered choice over a Disney DVC resort.

Unfortunatley the prices for us are sky-high, but hopefully from 2009 onwards we can get back to cheaper summer rates.

Main reason we have booked is just to give us a few days with facilities on-site as it were, really cannot wait to stay there. Website looks great, with the best virtual tour I have ever seen.

Main pool looks cool with fountains and water slides for kids, zero depth entry too, nice restaurants/bar's/pool tables and a Publix nearby.
Hopefully Joshua will like it.
Not planning on visiting ANY parks whilst we stay here.

Gets excellent reviews on many sites I have checked and also has the advantage of being in a quieter area of Orlando.

Julie reckons I will be in tears when we leave here......she may be right.

Brilliant price. Where did you find that rate ?
On Omni's own website - the price is for stays of 3 nights or more and, for our dates, it has now come down to $115 a night. Like Johnny, we're also considering a 2 bed villa - they're brand new and look fab. They're around $300 a night for our dates.

They do look fab, have had an overview also on a 'live search' website that gives clear overhead views of the resort - bit like 'google earth' only better.

Unfortunatley we are paying a fair bit more than $300 but as our villa rental is at a reduced price because we have rented from them before we figure it is worth it.
To be honest once we saw the rooms and facilities we knew it was for us, I haven't seen nicer 2 bedroom villa type accomodation, including DVC resorts (well on a website anyway, let's hope it is as good as it looks).

I really think Josh will like the pool area, with the slides and fountains too - as you know we always ensure we stay somewhere he would enjoy.

I know about David's club too ;)

Sorry Bekki not trying to take over here, excited about staying at this resort.

Hi,
We've just come back from our trip to Orlando :sad2: and as part of our stay we had a night at the Omni. It is a lovely hotel, the pools with the lazy river, a flume, kids pool and quiet pool are all excellent. They have courtesy shuttles to the parks, shops on-site and within walking distance (publix, walgreens )
Our room had 2 queen beds and they had left milk and cookies for the kids which was a nice touch. Our only complaint was that we had only booked to stay there for one night!!:)

The Omni is a fantastic hotel. Even though we haven't stayed there, we have used their facilities.

Davids club is a particular favourite of ours, excellent food

The spa is really nice too, and I thought quite reasonable.

When we were there they had movie nights every other night, in the main pool for the children, large screen (showing Shrek 3 when we went) and all the children were in the pool floating around on the rings while a guy made them popcorn

Nice to hear positive comments Major/Carole, we have now booked for 4 nights at the 2 bedroom villas at Omni Champion's Gate for next March.

Can't wait to stay here, looks fantastic with plenty for me, Julie and Josh to enjoy - it's nice they have thought about kid's with the water fountains/slides/lazy river and zero entry pools.

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies. All positive so I think this will be our place to stay for 2 weeks :thumbsup2

We had a 7 night stay at the Omni back in January and am sorry to say we hated it.

I had been so excited as I had read many excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Yes the grounds and pool are beautiful and the rooms a nice size but there is no getting away from the fact that the walls are paper thin - I have stayed in many hotel rooms (I even work in a not so great 3* star UK hotel) but I have never been able to clearly hear people in the next room having a conversation at normal talking level.

We had a few problems on check in which I accept, as I said I work in the industry and understand that situations arise and don't judge hotels on the problems encountered but on how they resolve them.

Also we were allocated a room which was next to an air con unit, in most hotels this wouldn't be a problem but even with the doors shut it was still quite noisy, so I asked to be moved. They couldn't accomodate our request until the Sunday night (we checked in on Friday) I accepted this and carried on with our holiday.

On Sunday we were enquired about our new room and was asked to pack our bags up so they could move them for us when another room was available. When we arrived back later that evening they told us they didn't have a room for us as we had checked out and they didn't have our luggage !! After 1/2 hr I had had enough my DD3 was asleep in my arms I asked them to refund my money for the remainder of my stay as I decided to take my chances else where. They wouldn't do that as it was a prepaid rate so I had no choice but to try and sort the mess out. As it turned out they had already found us a room and our luggage but spent another 45mins in a back room trying to work out how it had happend :furious:

When we originally booked I stated that we needed a room with 2 queens as we were travelling with my DD although when we checked in they only had a room with a king bed, so we were offered a put u up. This didn't arrive the first night and again wasn't in the 2nd room and again arrived the next day and for want of a better description "dumped" we had to move the furniture ourselves.

They offered us a voucher for $100 for our troubles which I told them wouldn't make up for the problems and wasn't necessary. I wasn't prepared to eat there and let them mess up another part of our holiday when I had adr's at our favorite restaurants. We did in fact end up using it for lunch on our last day in the Italian and I will say we had an excellent meal with service to match.

We also had 2 days when the room was not serviced - they did offer to sort this out but it was approx 9 -10 pm and we just wanted to go to bed so declined.

Sorry for the rant, but these were the main points and it was just our experience and many people feel very differently. For us - yes it looks good but didn't have the service/experience in reception and housekeeping to provide a 4/5 star service.

As for First Choice Premier Service we returned this morning with them and I would definately use again if the price was right. Otherwise I would book Virgin as we prefer flying into Orlando International.

Hope this helps.

Hi Babyboo
sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at the Omni...it really does spoil your hols when something like this happens.

However, we had a totally different experience (and we got this through pricelne!) We were only guaranteed a room for 2 adults and I asked if we possible get 2 queen beds and they changed it no problem(thought there might have been a bit funny with it being a priceline booking) and the room was ready at least a couple of hours before the official check-in time.:thumbsup2

Hi all, we stayed in the Omni last June for 7 nights. The hotel was immaculate, if a little "up market" for two children and consequently we didnt dine in at all (there is a Chilli's nearby, so this was not a problem). The rooms were very good and the outside area, pool and lazy river were fantastic, the adjacent golf course was also very good. The children loved going round and round on a tyre for hours!

My only criticism would be that it was quite a long way from anything other than disney. This is not a problem if you want to use it as a place to relax with visits to Disney but if like we did you still want to go to other places such as Belz, Universal etc, then its a bit of a chore. That was our fault not the hotels.

Overall the hotel was very good, the staff effecient and the rooms large and clean with fantastic views of the golf courses.

Dont forget to join their select guest programme, this is free and gives you added benefits, potential room upgrade, free orange juice delivered to your room, newspaper etc

Hope this helps.

Michael

I think it's good and useful that we have had opinions from people that have stayed there.
In our case we are staying at the 2 bedroomed villa complex there not the actual hotel, but all Omni's in my experience have been quality places to stay.

To be honest the fact that we are away from Disney etc is a plus side for us, we are staying onsite at SSR for a few nights, as well as 12 nights in a private villa too.
So the contrast should be good and the facilities at the Omni, especially the pool area are a big plus.

Most of the restaurants at Omni hotels are on the 'upmarket' side, looking forward to the breakfasts there though! and a Publix nearby means groceries are easily available, we will probably do a fair bit of our own cooking.
