I have spent most of the last few weeks tweaking both dates and resorts. Waiting for air flights to be released to make the final decision. I originally booked POR Riverside. Preferred Room with QS dining. I still have that ressie but it is during Jersey Week and air fares are outrageous at all the near by aiports. Also, I made the ressie for me and my 2 kids and DH would come down on Sunday. I am not sure how that would effect the reservation because he has tix from 2003 that he still needs to use lol. Option #2 our "first" hotel Wilderness Lodge but we decided to change our dates. Kids and I fly down Thanksgiving Day. DH follows on Sunday the 26th. Hoping for that elusive free dining offer. We have room only Courtyard View at WL and kids and I will stay at AoA for the first 3 nights. Well..of course I look at the website again and see the Poly would only cost about $300 more for standard room. So I am booked in there as well. And lastly, Option #4 is room only at POR Royal Suite from the 26th to December 1. Before you judge me I would be happy to PM anyone and coordinate when I release the rooms. Here is what I am mulling over and need help with:
We love POR. Love the food court and the proximity to Disney Springs. I am hoping that the drone Christmas Light Show will be next year during our stay. We were luckly enought to be in HS the first night of the last year of Osbourne Lights. Half of the staff was in tears.
We have stayed at the old Poly 2 x when they kids were little. Having the monorail when they were babies was awesome. But now I'm worried that we spend so little time in the MK and I have never understood why there is not a dedicated monorail resort to Epcot. The TTC is close enough for us to use to get there. What I am worried about is all the new DVC rooms making the resort crowded as well as blocking my view of Electic Water Pagant. Lastly, the quick service at the Poly is a joke. I love the pasta and salad to order at the Mod's. The Poly is pricey so not sure what to do.
Lastly, the WL. Again, worried about the addtion of all these DVC units. Also, transportation is great to MK. I enjoy the boats but we go hard anymore and really don't need that down time on the boats. So many choices. Thoughts?

So you have deposits on 4 rooms correct? I would have to assume that your kids are young like elementary age so you could go to Disney after thanksgiving and crowds hopefully would not be to bad when DH gets there. I personally love WL because that was our first resort but I'm not sure about the construction. The poly is one of my dream resort but if you don't do MK much save the money at stay at POR. Not sure if I helped at all but I definitely wouldn't give myself no more choices. Lol

POR for sure. First of all, it's the only one that caused you to use the word "love". Your reasons for that resort were clear: Close to Disney Springs, awesome food court. Transportation is solid as well. The other resorts you mentioned--it's clear that they would require a concession or consideration on your part. Take your sweet family to POR in the preferred room. Enjoy and love every minute. Your first inclination is usually where your heart is.

Lol. Isn't that the truth. Kids are going to be 17 and 14 next Thanksgiving. My babies are almost grown. Wilderness Lodge has always been such a sweet memory. My son still calls it "my hotel" and I know they would love the Poly since the don't remember it. So confused lol.

It isn't on your list - but...
Have you considered beach club? Great pool for older kids, get an walknto both Epcot and HS. We adores POR when my kids were younger, now they love telling me they are running over to Epcot to grab some good carry out for lunch :)

I'm really confused. Do you want us to help you pick dates or resorts? Based on your description, it sounds like you would be happiest at POR around the time the drone show might be back. Based on your concerns with Poly and WL (which I share, by the way), I would probably take them off the list. There is absolutely no reason to stay in the MK area if you aren't going to MK a lot unless you absolutely love the resort. I would go POR or consider an EP resort if you are going to EP/DHS a lot. We love the Boardwalk and that has become our go-to resort over the past few years.
