We are leaving for WDW Monday at 6am. I just went to the bank to get some cash, and the teller told me that my DL is EXPIRED!!!! It expired on the last day of Sep, which is not my birthmonth, so I didn't realize it until she mentioned it. I called our tag agency, and of course it is closed on Sat.!! Will I be able to get thru security and onto the plane? I have my work ID badge with a pic on it, and my DLR AP with a pic, but no other type of picture ID. If I take both of those, my expired DL, and my SS card, will I get thru? I cannot believe I did this!!!:sad2: :sad1: :scared:

Don't take your SS card. It is way to dangerous to carry around a SS card should it get lost or stolen the person finding it will have all they need to steal your identity.
I would call the airline and ask. You may have to bring a Birth cirtificate as a second form of ID - but deffinitly not your SS Card.

Got a passport? I'd call the airline immediately to find out what their rules are, but I somehow don't think it will be good news :(

I don't have a passport. I wish I did, I am sure that would be the best thing. I am going to call the airline right now. Thanks!

I would second the passport idea. I tend to use mine anyway, just because it costs so much and gets so little use.

Definitely call the airline. As long as it has your picture and name should it matter if it expired?? The only reason I ask is cause mine expires while I am in FL but I am going to get my renewed before I leave.

Actually, I think you'll be fine. Last time we flew out of MCO they did not check our ID's. I actually wrote to TSA about it. I don't even remember what there response was, but I was shocked. Anyway, you should be fine as long as the picture is of you and your boarding pass matches your picture. I worked for UAL (before 9/11) and we never checked expiration dates on DL. Just made sure picture matched person boarding.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. My husband's license expired more than 10 years ago, he flies all the time, and has never been stopped at an airline security checkpoint (in case you're wondering, he's active duty military and his license is good until he leaves the service).

I called the airline (United) and told them what happened. They said I should bring my DL, work ID and SS card. and that I should expect some "extra security measurements" to be taken. they put a note on my reservation that I had called ahead of time. So, it may take a little longer to get on the flight, but at least I know I will be getting on!! Thanks everyone!!:hippie:

If you have to take your SS card, keep it in a seperate place from your other ID! Better safe than sorry.

I was in the security line at PIT recently and a woman was stopped because her DL was expired, she had to step aside. I saw her later on the other side, so she did get through, I presume with extra security. Another time I was behind someone who had no ID (probably around 20 years old) and again, I saw her later at the gate.

I agree with Dan and others. People have traveled okay in this situation. You have called the airline and gotten the info you needed. You know it will take longer to get through security but you will be prepared! Try to relax a little and enjoy your trip! And take a little consolation from this whole thing in the fact that you probably prevented at least one other DISser from suffering the same worry!:rolleyes1

I have travelled with an expired DL before. Of course, this was before 9/11, but they didn't say a single word about it. I think the worst that would happen now is extra security screening, but I think you'll be just fine! Have fun on your vacation!

Don't take your Social Security card - it is way too valuable to lose. It only proves that you are eligible to work in this country . . . not who you are.
The ID to fly requirement is the airline's . . . it's a revenue protection thing for them.
If you do not have ID, TSA might put you through "secondary screening," which means - pat down, swabbing for explosives etc. It should only take a few extra minutes. If possible, do not have any carry-ons for yourself. Someone else in your travel party should be responsible for them.
All of the above assumes that the ID checker notices the expiration and also considers it invalid.

My DL expired while I was on a birthday trip to San Francisco a year ago. No one noticed it on the return trip (including me).

I flew to WDW a couple of weeks later - the TSA rep pointed it out, but let me through with a detour to the extra security line (wanded).

The interesting part was at the rental car counter. It is a big NO NO to rent a car w/o a valid DL. I called my sister moaning about my frustration (at what was MY mistake). She told me just to not say anything and see what happened. Five minutes later I was driving out with no mention of my DL being expired. I still don't know how that happened. There's usually a check at the counter AND at the parking lot leaving.:confused3

Thank goodness I got the car as Delta lost my luggage (never found) and I had to go buy everything. This was back when you couldn't carry on anything so everything was in my checked bag.

On the return via MCO the TSA agent made me go back to the Delta agent to get some special piece of paper (the Delta agent says it happens ALL of the time). Then I was allowed thru, put thru additional screening (wanding) and was on my way.

I got my new DL immediately upon returning home.
