My boss had mentioned to me that his floor shakes every time the wrecking ball hits the tower of the dorm next to us and I thought that's what was going on until it lasted for about 25 seconds....It turns out it was an earthquake! I know it's nothing as big as the ones those of you out in California have, but I'm not in California!

:earseek: WOW! That had to be scary!!

Honestly, at the time it wasn't that bad because I didn't know what it was. I just heard a crash and then the floor shook quite a bit. It wasn't scary until my mom called and said "Did you have an earthquake there, too?" (she's about 45 minutes away from me.) Now, I'm a little bit shaky....they think it might have been a 5 or 6 on the Richter scale.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss...it must have been so unsettling once you discovered that it was an earthquake.

Okay....small update....It was a 4.5

we must've posted at the same time. :)

Did you feel it up there, Caitycaity?

Wow! You know they say one day we are supposed to have a really big one here. There is a huge fault line running East of us through Arkansas. My whole entire life I have heard about the possibility of a large earthquake here. My mother remembers one when she was in her 20s. I've never felt one but I think the strongest in my lifetime was only a 2 on the scale so not strong enough for me to feel here.

Anyway at least you didn't know what it was until afterwards. How scary!

I missed the whole thing. My DD comes downstairs asking "what was THAT?" She said her whole room shook. Nothing happened downstairs. I'm home sick today but I didn't realize I was that sick

i didn't feel anything, but a friend who works in arlington said she did.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeez, Becki! I hope they stay away when I'm up there on vacation!!

Glad it was not a really bad one and everyone there is ok. I cant imagine how scared you must have been when you realized what it was. Fortunately I have not ever experienced one.

How scary!! I am paranoid about earthquakes.

I keep waiting for the 'big one' to hit here. The other night I dove under the desk thinking one had hit and it was just DH shaking his let.

Supposedly there were tremors in Arlington, where I work, but I sure didn't feel anything. When I heard that afterwards I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. Earthquakes are not exactly an everyday thing in Virginia.

poohgirl 71, She felt it more because she was upstairs. There is a huge difference. During our last little earthquake There were 6 of us sitting in my living room. Two of us were sitting in the portion of the room that has a large crawl space underneath (We're situated on a hill) and the others were sitting directly over foundation. It was really weird because the others couldn't feel it until the last few seconds. They were looking at us like we were crazy when we were insisting we were having an earthquake.
