My kids have the tv on and they are watching America's Funniest Videos. I happen to look up and see a video that had my blood run cold.

I sent in a video years ago, that was cute and funny, they never picked it. THIS video gets picked for being funny????

A little boy about 3 years old has one of those potty seats that goes on top of the toilet to make the seat smaller. He put it over his head, so it was stuck around his neck. I guess he couldn't get it up over his head to take it off. They show what looks to be "grampa" calling him over, and he has a pair of wire cutters. He is trying to cut through the plastic. That is not working, so what does he pull out? A HACK SAW! He is sawing through this potty seat with a hack saw and the kid's face is 6 inches away!!! Holy cow...we're expected to laugh at that?

I'm sensitive about a lot of videos on that show.

I find much of it disturbing and can't watch the show.

I watched that show this morning - and laughed at that clip. :confused3

I love that show!

I've been watching it for many years. I remember that one year they told viewers that they should not send in any more videos of people in situations where they could get hurt. Wow! That didn't last long. The next year it was even worse and it gets worse every subsequent year. They are showing videos now where you KNOW the people have to be getting hurt. I don't think they are funny. I like the cute animal and kid videos - they're the only reason I watch anymore.

I hate the ones where someone is led to believe they have just won the lottery. That is horrible. I'd pretty much disown anyone who did that to me!

Seems like most of the videos are people doing stupid things that are dangerous and get someone hurt.

America's Funniest Home Videos has never been funny. I can't believe they still do the show at all!

you just have to assume that any video they show did not result in harm or death...

I mean. how many broken hips and pelvi, and coxcix(sp) mus there be with all those old folks falling backwards on the dance floors?

Mikeeee

The one that really dirves me crazy (and it's been replayed in so many episodes) is where the toddler has about a half dozen live frogs in what is clearly a soggy diaper. How the heck is that funny? I'm sure it wasn't to the frogs...people are nasty. :sad2:

It's funny you should mention this. This happened to me about 10 years ago. I was sooooo excited because I was a SAHM and DH's salary just covered the basics. We didn't have much "fun money". All I could think was how I was going to get to go visit my mom. I was soooo happy for about 3 minutes. Then the gig was up. :sad1:

It was Christmas day, and I ended up going home early with a headache. I really did have a headache, and just felt crappy the rest of the day.

The "perp" (a BIL whom I adore) came over the next day to apologise. It wasn't funny then, but I can (sorta) laugh about it now.

A few years later, he gave us some lottery tickets in an anniversary card. We won $2. I called him and told him he only owed me $998,000.00 now. :lmao:

I can take or leave the show. I'll watch it once in a while if DH or DD happen to have it on. I did read an article that said anyone sending in videos does have to certify that no one was actually hurt in the scene shown.

They have a lot of videos that I don't think are funny. But some are hilarious.

Dh and I often say to each other that we can't believe the parent/adult in the shot is standing there filming a situation when they really should be in there helping out whatever is going on with the kid in the video.

I agree, I hate these,as well--think they are cruel!

I think this every time! A kid/teen jumping off the roof onto a trampoline, bouncing off onto the ground!:scared1: Why would anyone film that!? Or do it for that matter! Too dangerous!

I agree that the hacksaw video is stupid and irresponsible but I do like the show and watch it often.

And from what I remember none of the videos where people get hurt are ever nominated for or winning any prize money.

Schadenfreude - look it up

I never, ever, ever find that someone else's misery is funny.

I really dislike that show because I think a lot or most of the so-called comedy is mean-spirited taunting of another person's misfortune or stupidity.

And those lottery ones? I'd clock someone who did that to me. I don't think that's funny AT ALL. I can just imagine thinking, "Oh my god. I can quit my heinous job. Thank you, jeebus. Thank you, thank you. I can look forward to getting up tomorrow morning and not wanting to sob at the thought of another day in hell. Thank you, thank you... what do you mean it was a joke?" Not funny at all.

I just like the animal videos. I can't stand the kid and baby videos, maybe its because I'm not a mom yet but I just don't think the kid videos are funny at all. The animal videos crack me up though!

I don't know if it's the same one, but I have seen one where the kid has frogs in her underwear, not a soggy diaper.

Maybe it's just my sens of humor, but I think the show is funny. I just don't take it that seriously. I have plenty of other serious things to worry about.

I hate those, too. There's just a line you don't cross with practical jokes, and that crosses it.
