OMG! The book "I'll love you forever"!

DS got this at a book fair, he thought it was about a kid loving the potty! (he is in kindergarten)
I read this to him tonight, I couldn't even finish! DS wanted to know why I was crying. I don't think I can read this ever again!

"I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be."

:lmao: That was me the first time I read it to my DD when she was 5. I think it gets easier each time you read it.

The idea is that we usually take notice of our children's "firsts" such as: first steps, first words, first bike ride......this book was about cherishing our children's "lasts": "If I had known that was going to be the last time you would run up to me and jump up into my arms, I would have held onto that moment forever." or "I didn't know that was going to be the last time you would hold my hand in public, I would have cherished it more"

It's so true, those "lasts" just seem to slip by unnoticed, till one day we say to ourselves "Oh, when did she stop doing our special kiss? I hadn't even noticed that she stopped"

Take time to notice those "lasts" too.

My BIL once told me when my kids were born everytime you pick them up to carry them upstairs and you think you just can not do it again - try to do it one more time and be very aware of this feeling because this might be the last time.

Now that makes me cry. As I know my DDs last time being carried up the stairs is coming soon as she is just getting too big. Okay. Now I am sitting here crying.

When my DDs were in nursery school the teacher always read this for story time during mother's day tea! Talk about a bunch of sobbing moms!

I shelve books in the school library twice a week, once in a while a title will catch my eye. I stopped to read this book, and there I am, in the middle of the elementary school library just about to burst into tears. I didn't expect such a touching read over there in the "Easy" books.

I cry reading this book, too. :sad1:
I have 2 copies of it. Got them as baby shower gifts.
It is a touching book.
I'm getting weepy reading the posts, tho I have been weepy on and off this week.

Love You Forever
Love You Forever started as a song.

"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
as long as I'm living
my baby you'll be."

I made that up after my wife and I had two babies born dead. The song was my song to my dead babies. For a long time I had it in my head and I couldn't even sing it because every time I tried to sing it I cried. It was very strange having a song in my head that I couldn't sing.

Oh good grief! I may have to hide that book away and give it to DS when he is a father.
DH read it to him tonight. I had to pause here and there but made it through.

I once read a book in a bookstore and didn't get the name of it. I could kick myself, because I bawled my eyes out while reading it.

I believe the book you are talking about is "Let Me Hold You Longer" by Karen Kingsbury. My parents gave it to me for Mother's Day this year, and it is a beautiful book.

"Long ago you came to me,
a miracle of firsts:
First smiles an teeth and baby steps,
a sunbeam on a burst.
But one day you will move away
and leave me to your past,
And I'll be left thinking of
a lifetime of your lasts...

The last time that I held a bottle
to your baby lips.
The last time that I lifted you
and help you on my hip.
The last time you woke up crying,
needing to be walked,
When last you crawled up with your blanket,
wanting to be rocked."

:sad1: :lovestruc

Thank you, thank you! I never expected to find out the name of that book. I'm going to order it today! Did it impact you as much as it did me?

The first time I read that book with my son I was sobbing. It still brings me to tears. It has been a favorite since they were little. Another huge favorite is The Giving Tree. :)

Me too. Both of these books make me cry.

I started reading this book 11 yrs ago, still read it regularly to my boys & still cry every time.

I think I sob harder at Love you Forever, but this book really makes my heart ache with love for my little boys. It totally makes me think about all the amazing phases the boys have already passed through. Even as I was carrying one of the boys downstairs to the guest room tonight (we have to separate them when they won't stop talking to go to sleep), I was thinking about how much I love holding them like that, carrying them on my hip as I go downstairs. I really do try to absorb those little moments and tuck them away along with so many other precious memories.

i'm going to stop now before I totally start crying. :lovestruc

Someone else mentioned Runaway Bunny and Guess How Much I Love You - both are favorite bedtime stories in our house. The Velveteen Rabbit and the Giving Tree were ones I loved as a kid - I'll definitely have to get those when the boys get a little older.
