OMG! The book "I'll love you forever"!

The funny thing is, most of Robert Munsch's books are really very silly, funny books. We have two of his treasuries and my four kids couldn't get enough of them.

another story from my childhood that totally makes me cry was
'Koko and her kitten"... and "The Velveteen Rabbit"

I had a section of The Velveteen Rabbit read at my wedding! The part that talks about what it means to be real. Your hair has been loved off... I love that book.:cloud9:

I always start sobbing half way through this book. The kids hated for me to read it because I couldn't get through it without crying.:sad2: Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.:confused3

I once read a book in a bookstore and didn't get the name of it. I could kick myself, because I bawled my eyes out while reading it.

The idea is that we usually take notice of our children's "firsts" such as: first steps, first words, first bike ride......this book was about cherishing our children's "lasts": "If I had known that was going to be the last time you would run up to me and jump up into my arms, I would have held onto that moment forever." or "I didn't know that was going to be the last time you would hold my hand in public, I would have cherished it more"

It's so true, those "lasts" just seem to slip by unnoticed, till one day we say to ourselves "Oh, when did she stop doing our special kiss? I hadn't even noticed that she stopped"

Take time to notice those "lasts" too.

I cry each and every time I read this to my kids. My 4 year old (at the time) and her Pre-K class acted out the entire story last Mother's Day. All of the Moms were sobbing. I have it on tape and I watch it often.:lovestruc

Okay, stop making me cry! TMI, but I'm a little menstral right now!! :rotfl:

I hate that book! It is evil!! I remember being at something as a teen and they read it.........I bawled like a baby. It wasn't pretty, mascara and nose running simultaneosly. I looked like a cross between a racoon and Rudolph by the time it was over.

I like that book and it makes me tear up. DH thinks it's creepy that she sneaks into the son's room and later, his house.

:lmao:

I think the same thing! The pictures in our book did not help any with this woman crawling across the floor in his bedroom. Then there was the picture at the end with the man carrying his mother and then sitting with her in his lap. It just screamed CREEPY!!!

I love to read, I loved to read to my kids, I love to buy books for people having babies, I love to give books to my littlest nephew.....but I can't stand that book. Ughhhhh It just gives me the creeps!!!! :confused3

This was a favorite in my household during the young years, too. I had made up a tune and sang the song the mother sings while I read the book to my boys, so imagine my surprise when we found the tape of Robert Munsch reading some of his stories, and the song he sang sounded almost exactly like the tune I made up!!! :scared1: (That's a freakishly funny smilie I just had to use right there!!) Anyway, it was a tear jerker for me too, but I love a good, sentimental cry!

Geez Louise, now why did you have to go and say that when just 2 minutes ago I told my 11 year old daughter (for the one hundred millionth time tonight) that she could NOT sleep with me and to get her butt back in her own bed!!! :guilty: I know she won't want to do that forever. I want to go up and hug her right now and tell her to go on and get in my bed (even though she's been in my bed for at least three times this week so far). :upsidedow

DS got this at a book fair, he thought it was about a kid loving the potty! (he is in kindergarten)
I read this to him tonight, I couldn't even finish! DS wanted to know why I was crying. I don't think I can read this ever again!

"I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be."

Oh Thank God you said this! I have never, EVER been able to read that book to my sons without choking up and bawling my eyes out. It's really pathetic!:rotfl:

I used to read that to my boys when they were little. My DS who is now 25 gave me a new copy for my birthday last year. :)

LOL..I cry at most of the kids books about a mother/child relationship... they just look at me with the 'oh geez, mom is crying again' look... lol

:lmao: :thumbsup2 I'm awful -- my DD just thinks I'm insane -- she actually jokes now about "should I bring you the Kleenex" as soon as she hears me sniffling for things. It's more of a mom ISN'T crying -- what's wrong here? :rotfl2:

Books, Movies (I can't NOT get through the American Girl Molly movie -- DD decided to watch it Sunday -- UGH!!!).

It's something you can't explain to the kids either really -- I was always a "get the crying towel" girl if I knew a movie was going to be a tear jerker but none of these other ones would have gotten to me before I had kids.

Books that get me from my childhood are Charlotte's Web and the thing is I can't stand spiders -- I will squish them (or scream and make DH squish them if he's home or DS-11 will rescue them from my evil wrath) but I can't read Charlotte's Web without crying ever single time when Charlotte dies. They then made it into a animated movie & sure enough I was crying at that scene again. My mom thinks it's hilarious because how much I dislike spiders but I haven't seen one yet that has written me a message in thier web. If they do, then I might spare them.

What can I say, I keep the tissue companies in business. ;)

When I was in the 6th grade some Mom read this to our class for some reaso or other. Everyone thought it was weird and to this day that story is strange to me. Perhaps that will change when I have kids. For now... creepy.

Wow, this has touched a lot of people! I guess it will be good when I just need to sit and cry, but for now I won't even try and read it again!

I was beginning to think I was the only one who thinks that book is really, really creepy!
