This is crazy...I was returning home from DS football today and my neighbor down the street came over and said her friend wants to move into our neighborhood and our house is the one she's interested in! Now most of you know we have been trying to move to Fl forever....I know, I know, the current weather patterns tend to make one stop and think....but this would be awfully tempting...no realtor fees involved...no stressful showings....I am jumping the gun as they have not seen the inside of our place...but it is like a sign. DH just came home Friday saying...let's just go....he'lll head down first....too bad he isn't in construction, at least he could be helping folks out a bit....we were out for the day and there was a message from the interested family saying thet'd like to meet....should we take this as a sign? The fact that we have 2 kids 10 and 14 is what's complicating things.
Any insight?

We just sold our former home without a realtor. When we announced we were moving a couple we kind of know heard from somebody my dh worked with. She called and asked about the house, said they liked the neighborhood, etc. They walked through it a couple of times and bought it! The best part was it wasn't contingent on them selling their home and they were willing to wait until the end of summer when we wanted to leave.
It was GREAT not having realtor fees! It hellped them have a lower mortgage and we got more profit. We worked with a lawyer that charged $250 to help us get the proper papeprwork and to hold the closing at his office.

that if you and your DH are , and have been, talking about moving to Florida for a long time, that your kids won't be too upset at all:)

Good luck!!

Talk to them and see where things go. I'm a firm believe that things happen for a reason. :sunny:

My childhood home was sold in this way.

My mom was the only one left in our 4 bedroom home. A neighbor, who had a 3 bedroom in the same area, knocked on my mom's door to inquire whether she had any thoughts of moving in the near future. My mom didn't -- at least not until the knock on the door. Strange how things happen some times.

Best of luck with whatever decision you make.

I say go for it, but keep your eyes wide open. Make sure you have your contract reviewed by a lawyer and that everything in the contract is iron clad. Realtors can be a pain, but at least (some) look out for your best interests.

Good luck and lots of pixie dust!:wizard:

If I had a chance to move to Florida - I would in a heartbeat.

Go for it!!;)

Go with your gut! We sold without a realtor too and it was easy, but DH's best friend is a mortgage guy so he handled everything on both sides. My Dh just turned to a coworker and said, do you want to buy a house?? She said how much and the rest was history!

Good luck and it is early enough in the school year I think it would be okay. I had to move in December in the 10th grade and minus my psycho parental situation it was fine scholastically.

If I had the chance to move to Florida..... and I did it!!!

Hear that? That's oppotunity knocking!

Good luck.

This all sounds o.k., but there is the little snag of EMPLOYMENT!!!! The $$$ from the sale of the house will be quite nice, but it can disappear awfully quickly! Seriously...DH is willing to just go in blind...my head is spinning with thoughts of health insurance, jostling the kids too much because of renting first 'till you know where the job/schools are...my folks and brother both live in SW Florida, but DH is a Project Manager/Mech Engineer and lets face it...those jobs are not in Florida...not much manufacturing is.:( Do you quit your job (that you hate by the way)sell your house and uproot a freshman and 5 th grader to "go with your gut?" We would need to focus on the Orlando or Tampa areas...even Jacksonville which are all too far to live temporarily with family, or if I lived w/family it would mean the kids would start in one school and eventually switch to wherever DH found work. I'd feel like a gypsy! I know we are jumping the gun, but the interseted party has called back AGAIN to set up a time...they want to sell their home by December...I say once they sell, give us a call and we will go from there....uuugghhhhhhh! If only this happened 2 years ago...or even 6 months ago when DH was changing jobs anyway!

I think you know where your heart is, so yes, go with your gut! Your head is spinning, and mine would be too, but I think it will work out. I would personally get looking at what to do for employment, and maybe you will find it is not a good idea to move, but you seem very excited, so I would check it out. It is easy for me to say, because my DH works retail and he can find work anywhere, and yet here we stay, in Kansas City!

Wow! DH just recently said if someone knocked at our door and offered us a specific dollar amount he would sell this house in a minute!! No hesitations. Me on the other hand starts being practical: jobs, health insurance, where do we live (FL - but where?), etc.

I'm glad this didn't happen to us because I'd be in the same situation as you without the school aged kids. Good luck in your decision. Annmarie

I'm an ME who worked as a project manager also. Take a look at Monster...the jobs ARE in FL!!! I've never seen so many ME openings in my life!!! By any chance, is your DH a PE to boot? He'd be in demand here bigtime if he were. I've decided to do "Time to Teach" and become a high school math teacher here. If your DH wants a career change for a few years (or forever), it's totally an option for engineers here.

For reference, we just closed on our MA house (FSBO) on Tuesday, and we are now in our new house in FL :) We paid $500 in lawyer fees and like $1900 in "tax stamps" to sell the house. Doing FSBO is really easy, especially if it falls right in your lap. There's a reason for everything.

One other thing...EVERYTHING is cheaper down here. We got groceries today...they were like half the cost of groceries in MA. Gas is cheaper, food is cheaper, there is no winter gas bill...so far I really like this!
