OMG! Received a beneficiary letter!

I don't understand the last poster. Did you send in the death certificate just for their benefit? Who were they disbursing the $ to and what kind of policy was it? DH's aunt had 2 different ones. I guess we'll just have to wait and see! :goodvibes Thanks to everyone for working through this with me! You guys are great! :worship:

I'm with you. Don't understand that post either and read it twice. I'm hoping that person comes back and explains.

Sorry it was late and i am stressed with 3 sick/injured dogs.

In july of 07 my father died, i inquired about all his insurance, sent everyone but one company a death certificate. well that one policy that i didnt send to sent me a letter stating that he had a policy with them, that i was the beneficiary, and to get the check written they needed me to send them a certified copy of teh death certificate. well knowing there was no money in that policy i called and stated i was NOT sending them the dc. they insisted there was money in the account or they would not be contacting me. so i sent the certified copy, and recieved a letter in teh mail a few weeks after stating that while i was a beneficiary listed there was NO money in the account!!!!! so basically i spent 25 just to get a letter stating what i knew!!!

Since when do insurance companies try to locate the beneficiaries? I wasn't aware that they did that. I worked for a large insurance company and the only way we found that someone was deceased is when the beneficiary brought forth the policy and the death certificate to make a claim. How did they know she was deceased? Was there more than one beneficiary and someone else reported her deceased? This part does not sound kosher to me.

Various states have been trying to balance their budgets with "unclaimed" property; bank accounts that have no activity, stocks that have been dormant, insurance policies, etc. After some law suits the insurance companies have started being more proactive in finding a "rightful payee" before handing the $$ over to the government.

I had to call them...again....because I had a question on the claimant form. The gentleman told me how to fill it out. I was also questioning two policies and so I asked...again. He said she paid on them both for 20 years and that they were both paid in full and they needed to be paid to the beneficiary, which is DH. Nothing had to be done from our end but send back the form with a copy of the death certificate. Upon receiving it, the amount would be recalculated with any dividends that needed to be added and the check would be sent in 7 days plus the few days for mailing. So he said about 10 days. There were no other beneficiaries, just him. Again, no other info was given as hard as I tried. Darn. We were trying to figure out what she would have taken out on herself during that time. 1951-1971 is pretty long ago. Nice to wonder and dream though! Of course DH and I think its going to be BIG BUCKS - NO WHAMMIES! :lmao: (Loved that game BTW). Anything would be something and very unexpected. ;)

Best of luck to you. Here's hoping it's a big check - surprises like that are certainly great:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Just make sure that you keep us informed along the way.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

Big Bucks! No whammies!

I don't know.... why did it take 10 years to find you? I would of thought it would of went to unclaimed funds years ago. I agree call the attorney generals office and make sure this isn't another death scam. but if it is legit.....:woohoo:

Since DH is the beneficiary, Metlife should be able to tell him what the amount is. I am working with them right now on my mother's policies and they were able to tell me what was available, so I would know when I went to make funeral arrangements.

My grandmother passed away in July 2001 and her paperwork was lost during 9/11, took some time to get it straight, but Metlife is definitely a reputable company. Once they figured out what had happened, they setteled the claim in no time.
